Exhaust Suggestions Please! (new member)
Hey Guys,
I've had my 2001 LS430 for just about a year now and I think I'm read to start tweaking her a little bit (this car is already amazing so there isn't much I want to do). One thing I would change is I think she should have just a bit more get up and go. I am not looking for any crazy performance mods and want to retain the refined look/feel of the car as much as possible. I hear that adding a more efficient exhaust is a good way to get a few more HP out of the car. Can anyone recommend exhaust systems that are very close to OEM in sound but can give a little more punch?
Thanks!

Options are pretty limited for anything you will find in the USA.
The best way to go would be PPE headers then do a custom X pipe out to your choice of muffler and tailpipes. This would be pretty expensive and labor intensive but would make the most actual gains.
Or you can do what most guys do and have a muffler shop delete your resonators and weld in your muffler of choice aka magnaflow, flowmaster, borla etc. This may make a little HP but will be mostly for sound.
If you want a true bolt-on catback system I would contact Central Pine and see if they can source you a TOMS, Tanabe or other JDM kit.

Lexus Fanatic
Does anybody know where the "fake" dual exhaust trend came from? I think Lexus and Honda were pretty early to the game, in the 90's.....the trend reversed I guess due to cost cutting, interesting to see Subarus etc. with single exhausts again. My BMW has a true dual and is an inline 6, go figure, one set of pipes coming off each turbo, then an x pipe and h pipe at the end. Even BMW has done away with all that and cut the production costs by 75%, and faked the duals. BMW never used to fake anything, sign of the times.

Did not the folks from whom you heard that putting in an exhaust on an LS430 to free up HP also not have any ideas as to what exhaust options are available? If they did not, then you probably should not be listening to their opinions. As someone above posted, delete resonators and add exhausts are the easiest way to go with no appreciable gains other than the sound.
