Funny issue with this post is......regardless of the reputation of our LS430.... who in his right mind wants to buy ANY CAR with 375,000 miles!!!!!! Unless it's free what's the point? and even then?

Useful for body parts?

375k? Incredible. Wonder what kind of preventive stuff the owner did. Wonder what broke and when.

And even better....You can buy an extended warranty for it

I wonder what the actual shape of the car is with those kinds of miles on it... I guess if all maintence was done on every due date and it's possible it's in perfect shape...but, it would be hard to believe.

Car Fax is not worth the money. Third owner did 353k miles in 3 years, 4 mos. No Lex dealer work even when new?

I did a CF on the 01 I just sold. Lots of work done at various Lex dealers by me and past owners. Nothing listed. For some reason, work done by my local tire shop showed up. Had mistakes.

Can get a simple VIN based history (number of owners, etc) for less than $10.

Wow I am amazed at how well it looks for that amount of miles. I have seen an '05 UL with less than 100K be absolutely trashed compared to this.

I agree, I don't know who would willingly take on a headache like that considering all the other options like a clean ES or LS400 for about the same money and wouldn't be a ticking time bomb with that many miles.

The only case I can see being made is it would have to be dirt cheap and viewed as disposable. The first time something major hits, it goes to the junkyard.

He's also delusional to think he'll get that much for it. But I will say the cosmetics look great all things considered, it was probably taken care of for most of its life and then someone had a job that required crazy miles be put on the car and they drove it into the ground.

Impressive, but personally I'd spend an extra $2-3k to pick one up with 200,000 fewer miles.

Darn it, thought it was gonna be my auld 2006 Ultra model. I traded it in 2 years ago for an Equus. Had 365,000+/- miles.
I'd love to know were it went.

I got $5,500 for mine as a trade in. That car generated $883,035.87 over the 8 years I had it. I used it sparingly during the last 2-3 years. Mainly just kept it around because I loved it.

. Did you snap a pic of the odometer? Nowadays, 50% of drivers never see > 36,000 with their own eyes thanks to a product the house invented called leasing...

That's quite the claim.
Most sources say that 30-35% of new cars are leased .
And the average age of a car in America is about 11.4 years old.

How can 50% of drivers lease cars when fewer than 35% of new cars are leased, used car leasing is almost non-existent, and the average age of a registered car is 11.4 years? The only way I can think to reconcile these facts is that there must be a massive amount of registered cars that are not driven and 1/3rd of new cars are parked immediately after being purchased and after 6 years cars are rounded up by an Obamacare death squad and sent to the scrapper.

The reality is that leasing has become more common but it's not the most common form of vehicle use and it can make sense. I bought my LS430 35 months ago and put on 36k miles and it seems to have lost about 5k in value. In terms of depreciation alone, I've paid $142/mo to own my LS430 - and that required a 1k service for the timing belt and gave me some grief when I had to repair the driver's door lock actuator.

For a lot of people, leasing makes sense.

When I bought the car, some dealers were advertising Cruzes with 39 month leases / 39k miles with payments of $119/mo with $0 down. Had I purchased a Cruze, I would have saved $800 in depreciation, $1000 in maintenance, and $600 in gas (though insurance might have been more expensive). And in the past 3 years, I've averaged a 20% return on my investments so buying the car with one lump sum payment rather than paying a monthly lease bill had an opportunity cost of $5k or so. Though I'm not going to blame the LS for that, my old car was perfectly fine and I wanted an LS for at least 6 years at that point so that's simply the cost of acting emotionally.

Heck, when GM was trying to push last-gen Cruzes off the lot, people were picking them up for $80-$100/mo on a 36 mo lease with $0 down (if they had good credit and found a dealer who would play ball). It's really hard to find cheaper transportation than a new, relatively fuel efficient car @ $100/mo.

Good job on getting 20%. Vanguard actively managed MTF is 7-8%
