Suggestions for 17" wheels to modernize my 04???
#16
I have the 18 5 spokes on my 04 Cypress Pearl. Larger wheel updates the car a little, stock design looks good. I would stay away from aftermarket for this car.

Tall guy....since u have my same car and same color...can u post a pic of your car with those wheels please.
Thanks for all the replies........some good suggestions there. I have learned a lot already. Like I said I love my car and only drive the ole gal on the weekends or road trips. I like the way she looks stock but I know deep down inside that a SLIGHT bump towards the 20th century might be cool. No way I would do anything to make her loose the understated classy look. Honestly after the one reply stating it would cost me around $1000 to make the move.....and also the good info about smaller rims not looking as good.... I will come to my senses and leave the ole girl alone and spend the G on my boat I also have almost new tires and wont be changing those....so I am stuck w 17s for quite a while.

Agreed regarding the color.....not sure what other color I would have bought...and I have thought about it many times......Maybe silver and keep it classy or dark blue and make it look like a younger mans car?
But i get a lot of complements on my Cypress.....It looks good when its very clean and your tires have been dressed as well.

Agree clean and waxed, tires detailed, all chrome bright. I'm going to do a light tint on the windows and do the 18's. For now, wheels are going to be high polish silver. Have you noticed that sometimes it looks almost gray?

Picture is 17's. The slightly larger 18 - 5 spoke would update the car but chrome is a little flashy for Cypress. Mine came w/ 18 silvers. Once I figure out tires that are still comfortable/quiet then I'll install. Probably Michelin Premiers

Yep...thats my car.......same wheels I have. The wheels are actually quite nice....just no real pop, very under stated, but match the looks of the car perfectly. My car has a slight tint....I would recommend it.
Here are some pics of my car on the dealer lot before I bought it with no tint.......then u can see a pic of the car with tint.....the dealer did it..not me. He thought it would help the car sell.

Nice car Tinting is a great add. Keeps the inside sooooo much cooler. What percentage did you do? I know you asked about 17" options. I don't know if there's a 5 spoke that size. Attached shows an 18" w/ 5 spokes. One less spoke and slightly larger is a nice upgrade. Stock Lexus.

Tinting is a nice upgrade. Looks good. I did my 01 Gold w/ 5% front doors, 20% rear doors and window. Window shop says CA law forbids tint front doors. Not enforced tho.
Aftermarket wheels can work for cars that are mod'd. If anyone has found something pretty close to the stock 5 spokes, I'd appreciate knowing. Stock Lex wheels are hard to find and of course, expensive.

I think you can get a set of 18 inch OEM wheels for about $225 each, my choice is the OEM 17 inch chrome wheels which are about $250 each. auto recyclers of coarse. a lot of money for not much if any improvement. I have 6 chrome wheels just incase 1 should start to leak, but I believe that is related to climate and not the wheels. do you live in the swampy part of Virginia? need more wheels for snow tires? your current wheels will be almost worthless after you buy new ones and hard to store until you find a home for them. much better ways to spend $1,000.

Not sure what percent tint my car is.....it is a subtle light tint that just knocks the edge off of a bright day....and possibly adds a little cool hipness to my old man cruiser. The dealer did mine before I bought it. Yes I like the 5 spoke over the 6 spoke....good call. That would be more like the move that I would make. But again I wont be straying from my new 17" Pirelli P7 tires as I like the ride quality.
So for now....I will keep the $1000...........I like this thread and talking about the options though so keep it going if y'all want to .
