Default what is this drain for...

Saw a small puddle under the car this AM, decided to investigate. There is some sort of drain tube that doesn't protrude out of the opening, so water drips here......could it be from the hood area? We did run the a/c yesterday evening.....just curious

Its more likely water coming from your A/C unit as it dehumidifies the air in your cabin.

Yes, that is your A/C drain tube. I know because I recently had to unclog mine about 2 months ago, passenger side carpet was a swamp. When making a turn you could actually hear water "slushing/swishing" behind the dash, and besides the dripping, water would "spill" on the floor when making a hard turn. Lexus wanted to replace the evaporator, $$$, took it to an independent shop and he blew compressed air into one of those drain tubes and LOTS of water came gushing out through the other side, and haven't had issues since. Charged me $60, car is an '01 with 255k miles.

I think they had tried to make it not protrude to minimize/slow-down elements getting in there and eventually clogging it like mine did.

Awesome, thanks Wise! Since I've had the car only 2 1/2 wks., I'm checking all the fluids daily (overkill I know), and so far, so good. I did notice grime around the oil filter, whose brand I cannot see, but the oil level has not changed (gone about 1,350 miles now). I will likely replace with synthetic and a WIX XP filter once I go 3k......

edit: Just discovered this AM (the next day), that the other side has the same hole, with tube and grommet, and this time, there was a puddle on the passenger side, none on the driver side.
