Default broken driver door lock actuator

Mine is busted, and its not worth $ 700 to me to get it fixed. I don't have the tools or a place to do it myself so I just leave my car open with nothing for anyone to steal.

Does anyone know if the Lexus dealer can cut me a regular key to use the lock manually ?

Thanks

What year? Do you have SmartAcess? There is a metal key in the SmartAccess key fob. You could also get a metal key cut for the door lock.

The LS is a 2005 with smart access. I know the fob has a key but its not very sturdy for constant use.
I wish the damn thing could be repaired reasonably......

Thanks. I will go to Lexus and get a regular key cut.

Stu, perhaps buy a solid shank key like this >

Have it cut at a capable locksmith (to save a few bucks). A key at Lexus will cost a bundle. (My "L" parts manager cuts keys for me for no charge.)

Sucks, I feel you. Mine went out a few months ago. It's a drag but I've learned to live with it. Luckily I don't have smart access so the key works fine, but it's still annoying. I never stopped to think about how big a PITA it would be without the keyhole right there.

And yes, $700 to fix is beyond ridiculous. (Thats what I was quoted too). A few hundred I could live with but nearly a grand for a door lock? Mmmkay. I'll just keep using the key from now on.

i thought about going to a stereo/alarm shop (ppl who take doors apart) but I don't quite trust it.

AJT, I still have a keyhole to use, but the key on the smart access is kinda fragile

Thanks Tom, http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-High-Sec...NTyAjQ&vxp=mtr would be awesome but they do not ship to Canada ! I will likely just go to a Lexus dealer and get a key made.

I understand the fragility of the switch blade key in the smart access fob. That key is not intended for regular use.

You also can't use a shell case for a '01 - '03, since without the transponder guts, that type key will also be fragile. You need a solid shank key that you can put on a key ring with your smart access key that has the transponder to communicate with the engine immobilizer.

How 'bout one from China? > http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Short-Bl...9Xa1R1&vxp=mtr

Or Australia ? > http://www.ebay.com/itm/TOYOTA-LEXUS...RXFyiL&vxp=mtr
