Default How to completely remove the video system?

I have a '04 LS430 that I got a little over a year ago. It has a rear video system with LCD in the headrests and a control center in what should be the panel opening into the trunk. I don't really care about the system and one of the LCD screens doesn't even work. In this day and age kids just use their own tablets on the rare occasion that we would even need a system. I have no use for the system at all and the biggest issue I have with it is the amount of trunk space I loose by having the system there. I has a huge box right in the center of the trunk. I still have trunk space that works but if I can remove that monster box I can get even more space.

Has anyone removed a system like this and if so its it a big issue to do so?

Haven't done this but am familiar with the AV wiring. The LCD headrests are aftermarket, you'll need to replace the headrests to get rid of the LCD screen.

The big box in the trunk sounds like an aftermarket subwoofer. Is the original subwoofer still there and functioning? If there are crossovers or an aftermarket amp, you'll need to disconnect all of that and restore the original wiring. You will likely need the 2004 electrical wiring diagrams and several hours to do this.

If you don't use the audio system at all and just want to free up trunk space, remove everything, wrap open wires with electrical tape, and hide them underneath the cover panels.

Do you have or use the in-dash nav system? This may affect your wiring plans.

Visit your dealer and ask if you can get a couple headrests out of the bin
in the parts dept that has all the "orphan" OEM head restraints that piled
up when the Video gear was installed. Would not need to be the original
video equipment installing dealer, there are lots of spares. Be aware that
they do not have any part numbers and vary widely by model, most will
be from RX's (best seller and demographics tend to have children...)

Part numbers for 2004-2006 LS430 HEADREST ASSY, FRONT SEAT:

71910-50450-C1 / BLACK,TRIM21
71910-50550-A0 / ECRU,TRIM00,08
71910-50440-C2 / BLACK,SADDLE TAN,TRIM2#
71910-50550-A1 / IVORY,TRIM07
71910-50550-C0 / BLACK,TRIM20,24
71910-50550-B0 / GRAY,TRIM1#
71910-50550-C0 / BLACK,TRIM2#
71910-50550-A1 / IVORY,TRIM07
71910-50550-A0 / ECRU,TRIM00,08

Or visit the aftermarket shop that did the AV system installation and maybe they still have the old headrests. I don't think any dealerships would do the aftermarket AV installation on-site, so I don't think any dealerships would have a bin of LS430 headrests.

I'm not sure if the Ultra Luxury package has different headrests for the UL's semi-aniline leather - I don't see separate part numbers.

So asked o the responses Im assuming this isn't factory. It's a very chean install if it's not. The big box is not actually a box, it's a cover around the equipment. I'm not all that worried about the the head rests but I can start keeping an eye out for a set of OEM ones. I guess I'll take a closer look aatjust removing the equipment in the trunk. It may be more hassle than it's worth.
