Doesn't seem like a very motivated seller.

That looks like the right rear damage referenced in the CarFax ... bumper covers (front & rear) need a re-spray?

Tom,

IIRC 2 different body shop quotes were $400-$500 per bumper on another LS I looked at.

I got a Maaco quote for 300. Maybe done w/ a paintbrush. High end (Cooks Collision) quote was 1,200

I asked the owner if there was any maintenance it needed (besides the upcomng timing belt service).

His response...

"The car is running good. Just drove it down from Iowa."

I'd do rattle cans before Maaco

Boone, Iowa, its original home, is an easy 1-day round-trip. Probably good thing for me it's in Ft. Myers.

im in the Bay Area. It's the saddle interior that I'm after. Seen a few black on saddle but I'm not a fan of black exterior

the seller sent me pictures of both of the bumper damages. Timing belt hasn't been done. It didn't bother me and I told him that. This car could have been long gone if he gave me the chance. But oh well.

If I remember correctly, the car is registered in Iowa.

While the LS is bulletproof, I always questions how much attention to detail and careful driving done when I car has a couple blights like this. Don't be smitten by a car is my philosophy. You do the bumpers, inspection timing belt drive or fly to get it the time involved etc. I would pass. Just me

Carfax's are compiled by the adjusters who pay out the insurance claims. The rear bumper damage is not what created the carfax if it has not been fixed or I am missing something. So there might be another accident the bumper rashs do not point to a real careful driver.

Police reports connected with the VIN also generate Carfax info.

Parking lot bumper damage is often "bump-and-run" too, so if you call the Police when your car is parked in a hit n' run, it is reported. So you get dinged financially to fix it, AND the Carfax shows there was damage, but you weren't at fault. So, I wouldn't necessarily conclude from a disclosure on a CarFax alone that the car wasn't loved and taken care of.

If the scratches are on the outside corners of the rear bumper, it might be someone didn't know how to park or failing eyesight. None of us are that old of course
