Default 03 with navigation display question

So on my way to work this morning I just started to mess around with some of the controls in my new car. When I hit display one or two nothing seems to happen. I was trying to check to see what the fuel economy was. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

display 2 doesn't do much. moves compass and temperature around. display 1 should cycle thru mpg, range, avg speed, ect. ect

if you hold reset too long you will have to drive in circles to reset the compass. I've done that

Press & hold the button for 5 seconds, then release.

If you have navigation, there is no compass display on the gauge cluster. Holding the button for a few seconds will turn the outside temperature display off. The "Disp 1" button should cycle through trip information on the section of the screen below the tachometer, though.

yeah it must be broken, that side does not light up. Is it still on the gauge cluster if you have nav or would it be on the small screen above the actual navigation unit?
