Is this really only 1,700 worth of damage??? - REAR ENDED
I was rear ended the other and went to allstate yesterday to have adjuster look at the damage, they claim trunk can be fixed and bumper needs to be repainted, they are replacing one rear sensor at 256 dollars and giving me 210 dollars for right inner and outer taillights....this totals out 466, that would leave 1,234 to fix the trunk and paint the bumper....seems kind a low to me, what do you guys think?

My friends 2IS was rear ended a few weeks back. The damage was a bit worse than yours and Geico quoted him $750 to fix it. Just looking at the damage, anyone with sound judgment could see it would take significantly more to fix. I urged him to take it to Lexus to get fixed and have them deal with the insurance. Six weeks and $7500 later he had his car fixed.
I say all that to say it's never a bad thing to get a second opinion.

Well, the adjuster did state that if the bumper has more damage underneath or needs to be replaced it will be and also if the trunk cannot be fixed that they will replace it....hope I don't have a problem with having this fixed.

They did tell me I could go anywhere I wanted to go, and if anything else came up that it would be covered....I was just kind of surprised at the initial quote.

If they told you that you could go anywhere, I would make you take it to a reputable shop that will fight for you. Other than that, they have no choice but to fix it to factory.

It's hard to tell, but in a situation like that I would probably just find a trunk lid from a salvage yard that was the same color and swap it out. You might even "make" money if they'll cut you a $1,700 check and you swap a trunk lid for maybe half that.
But at least in my state, what the faulted party's insurance company estimates the damage at is pretty irrelevant.
I was rear ended, and the other person's insurance company cut me a check for like $170. I knew that was delusional, I called my dealership and asked where they got body work done and took it there. The total price ended up being like $1,200 and they had to pay it along with my rental car.
So I would call your insurance agent and research the state law to see what your rights are.

Because that estimate is not worth the paper it's written on and they have no way to "cap" what it legitimately costs to fix your car.

I wouldn't fret what the initial estimate if you're going to get it fixed. The insurance is responsible to take care of you back to where you were prior to the accident. They use a generalized adjust labor rate quote, which most shops would adhere to if they're doing auto repair damage for insurance. He can only make the estimate from what he sees until they take the car apart to see if there are any other damages underneath and they will add a supplement quote for that to get the vehicle repaired. Now as for OEM parts, they are not required to provide you with OEM parts but LKQ parts instead unless there are no alternatives. But if you do want OEM parts over LKQ then you may have to pay the difference at that point.

If the other insurance is already taking care of it then you don't need to do anything with your insurance. The body shop of your choice will work directly with the adjuster that wrote you your quote.

I assume you are getting the trunk lid replaced yes?

I was rear ended in my old 2006 LS430 to the right side. The trunk was not even as damaged as that and they replaced the whole trunk lid! I don't think they should try fixing that. If you have a lexus dealer around you that has in house body shop I would go there. My rear end total to fix was $8000 and they still didn't total the car!
