For the smooth and safe drive, whats the best air pressure you all keep. Ofcourse the manual says the numbers, is that the number you all keep ????

I decided to check the pressures on my '01 a couple days ago, and I was shocked to find all of them at 40 PSI cold! I've had this car serviced at the Lexus dealership for the last 18 months and I know they rotated the tires and have (supposedly) checked tire pressures. I promptly took them down to 35, which is a much safer number. I don't know how long they've been at 40 PSI, but they don't show any abnormal wear. The last time I checked them, was probably August or September last year.

So, to answer your question, I run tires at 35 to 36 PSI, which gives them less rolling resistance, but does not kill ride quality.

I'm pretty sure my owner's manual said 31 all round but I stand to be corrected and will follow this thread with interest. As you say, it does make such a difference. So I will go with 35 PSI all round. Thanks 2KHarrier...

My 2006 LS 430 door placard states 32PSI with 17 inch wheels... I usually keep them at 34-35 PSI.

My 04 UL states 32 psig on the door frame and manual, and that's what I keep it at cold. I recently had my tires rotated and balanced and they put 40 psig in. I dropped that to 32 after it set overnight.

not really a trend just lazy techs or bad equipment. at the Toyota i work at a lot of there gauges are not calibrated correctly and most times give out false readings. but i usually set all my cars around 35

It's the most junior serviceman not mechanic that airs up tires and changes oil. He looks at the sidewall and that's what he thinks is the proper pressure.

Just checked my tires and found the tire shop had them between 38 and 40 psi. Will drop down to 35

Just replaced all four of my tires including spare with 235/45/18 continentals since my local tire shop didn't have 245/45/18 in stock. Asked the mechanic and he had all the tires at 35psi. The spare tire was an original Dunlop tire with the dot date of 2005.

I have 17" wheels/tires on my '01 and after experimenting, I run 35 psi - good balance for highway, as well as secondary roads that aren't smooth. Since the 17" tires have more tire profile, they absorb more road imperfections and can handle slightly higher psi than OE recommended.

However, on my other 3 LS's with 18" wheels/tires, I find 35 psi is just a bit harsh for secondary roads, since the tire is lower profile by 1/2" and doesn't absorb the imperfections as well. I drop the pressure to 33 - 34 psi. (I use a digital gauge for accuracy.) I can feel the difference with even 1 psi more on the 18" tires (Michelin MXV4 and Premiers). I check tire pressure in the morning only when the tires are cold, and not after baking in the sun.
