I have owned two LS 430 UL's and 2008 Ls 460 over the years . Currently I have a 2014 camry hybrid . I switched to the camry about a year ago as I was doing a lot of city driving . I no longer drive that much , maybe 600 miles a month so fuel efficiency is no longer an important facto to me . My question is , am I making a dumb mistake by selling my low mileage relatively new camry for a ten year old car . The Camry is as loaded as a Camry can be but its so dull and plain and I loved my 430 even more than the 460 , I need some validation . My wife thinks I'm nuts and she thinks getting rid of the Camry is crazy too. Help me fellas

Who is the primary driver of the car?

I asked the Mrs. what she would pick, she chose the Camry. #1 the updated safety standards. #2 fuel economy was second and the role well as a generic commuter. Ultimately one can not predict what type of crash scenario may occur. The partial and small overlap are really brutal. The side curtain air bags are also very good safety features. The Camry has this.

The LS is a great car and you've had them to know how nice they are. I lean towards the LS because they fulfill that luxo barge ride quality LS drivers seek. They are safe though this is conforming to that generation of car.

Drive it 9 months 28k miles
Came back to LS

Dec 2015 I bought a brand new 2016 wrx
900 miles and 23 days later I sold it
For a 10 year old LS again

i would not sell,trade mine for any other car.may buy another car but the 430 has a home here.

Thanks for the support boys , I'm the one driving the car so the camry's got to go . What would be considered a fair price for an 04 thru 06 with around 80,000 miles . I appreciate any and all info .

I've had the same experience. Went from 2004 LS to 2013 CT, then got a company car so my driving in the personal car went to almost nothing. Promptly switched back to another 2004 LS. I'm much happier.

Yep. Bonehead move to sell a 2014 Camry to get an old LS. You've already been there done that and you've got a bunch of money sunk into the Camry in depreciation. Now go back to a 2004-2006 vehicle? It won't be as reliable as that Camry.

The problem with Lexus, in general, is all other cars feel somewhat inferior once you've owned a Lexus. That has been my experience anyways. I've owned 2 GS, 2 LS, an IS350 and my wife has an IS300. In between some of these cars I've owned Porsches, Audis, etc.

And I always come back to Lexus...

I love my LS and will not get a Camry now but if I was in your position, I would agree with wife and keep Camry.
Just my opinion. Take the decision you can live with.

OP, the money you lost on the Camry is gone. And every mile you put you on your Camry is costing you more money. The LS is the way to be. You can score an 04-06 with 80k miles for ~13,000 if you wait for a deal. Most of us seem to like the modern luxury trim. I have more mechanical ability than most and if I had to do it again, I'd get the Ultra Luxury trim and just budget in a strut conversion when the shock failed.

An LS430 is going to depreciate more slowly than your Camry and if you drive on the freeway, the LS won't get much worse milage. But go test drive one and feel the difference. I love the LS. I'm going to drive mine until I can get a Toyota Century. Hilariously, I was thinking about getting a Camry hybrid after my commute got longer and I decided against it. A Camry hybrid would depreciate much faster than an LS (unless you buy a 30k mile 2006 LS430 and drive that - those will be some expensive miles). But I would only save money on gas, and even then it'd only be about 1/3rd of my gas bill. It just wasn't worth it. LS4eva .

I went from a 2001 LS to a 2006; it all depends on how you want to feel driving, smooth, relax, and totaling comfortable all around. I tried to upgrade to a 2013 LS but could not bring myself to it. The 06 just does it for me.


The Camry is smaller but I must say, it is a head turner.
