2005 LS430 or 2008 LS460
Hello fellow members,
I am considering a used LS. There are two to choose:
1) 2008 75,255miles $19,950
2) 2005 78,146miles $13,800
They have similar maintenance history with Lexus dealers only. 2008 one has some missing maintenance history in its carfax report. 2005 is more complete.
Which would you recommend, and why? Thx in advance!

If u plan on keeping the car for a long time i would save the 6K and go for the 430. From what i have read the 430 is slightly a little more problem free. Don't get me wrong both cars are great and i prefer the looks of the 460. I personally would do the 430. Just my opinion

460 looks way way better but by 2005 the Ls430 was absolutely bulletproof in every way. the 05-06 430s are well known as the most solid Ls to ever be built. its still old school Toyota. plus 2005 was in its final cycle so it really was dialed in perfect. and this is someone who is on the inside looking at them everyday.
the 460 is a drop dead gorgeous car. its bigger, faster, sleeker and is just cool, however, 2008 is a early model and I know there are some issues with them, but id still trust it to make it to 300k+ miles.
the choice is yours! id do the 460 though.

always thought the LS460 looks way too much like a big Camry, not really that different on the outside.
but it sounds like you're focused on the maintenance history and therefore reliability, in which case the 430 ought to be somewhat better, plus its much cheaper.
if you truly don't care about the more modern interior of the 460 then its a no brainer, go 430

430 all the way
I have a 2005 LS 430 with 124k miles. It still runs like new. I've talked with a few service techs as welland they've all said the 430 is a better car.

Thanks you all for your inputs. I hope either one will age better than my current 2003 BMW 540i. Personally, I did not feel too much different in terms of driving although Lexus and BMW are supposed to be opposite in many aspects.

Way more issues with the 460. Personally, I feel the 460 looks too similar to the ES350 especially from the rear. In addition, the 460 will drop substantially once you hit 100K, more so than the 430 which is less to start with.

Seriously, with the 460 it took Lexus until late 2010 - 2011 to get it right. Look at the consumer reports ratings. I will eventually get one but I don't even consider them before this year. The redesigned control arms were not implemented until mid to late 2010. Not to mentioned the other engine issues / recalls, brake actuator, hesitations on accelerations, ML amp failures, and other things. The 430 will be much better choice for this price range.

As for maintenance/repair, how much did you guys spend annually on 05/06 LS430?
In last 5 years with my current BMW 540i, I spent about $1500 every year. 540i was considered to be the most reliable BMW in the last a couple of decades.
