Default Keys in Car locked

Not sure how this happened in 200k plus miles of driving 2 LS's. I always leave my keys in my car unlocked when I go to certain restaurants so I do not have to haul in a big key chain. The keys are in my ashtray and car is locked. Had to get a ride home from a buddy. I thought there is a buzzer and the LS will not lock yur keys in.

That sounds really strange.
One quick fix might be to put a quick disconnect on your car key, so that you only have to carry it with you and leave the rest of your keys somewhere in the car. I have done that on a regular basis.

I believe I did no hit the Smartkey rubber, but if I did the long tone would sound alerting me they are in the car and it would not lock.

Now I had just found a bag of keys that came with my LS which my wife hid so my teenager would not go joy riding and all keys are in the carr. I always thought you could not lock a smartkey inside. Gueess I need a locksmith?

so all keys are inside car?? sometimes I have issue with my smart key and door locks in cold or wet weather. we had a blizzard recently (11 inches of snow, stop laughing) and I started my car to warm up. when I came back out it was running and locked. would not unlock with the smart key. had to use the blade key to open the door. I just attributed it to the cold. 11 inches was 3rd largest snowfall ever. I love Texas

I just keep my key in my pocket at all times. Leaving the smart key in the car drains the battery.
I just tryed to lock my keys in my car and can not do it?? I don't understand how u can do it.

I can't imagine leaving a car unlocked with the keys into it and going into a restaurant

But you're right, it should not be possible. The only way to do that would be to lock it with an outside key. Meaning, one key in the car, locked with the lock button using the second key.

I do this at fine restaurants and trust people in general SW, so far never let me down even had a dell laptop in the front seat. Locksmith said he had read about the battery wears down locks the car? Said just like computer glitches. 40 bucks used a inflatable bag and a prong to pull the manual lock back.

To note, the Smart Key worked perfectly once the locksmith opened it until I just replaced it.

I applaud your trust I suppose...if I were a car thief a fine restaurant is one of the first places I'd go.

Yeah the key in the car runs the battery down, its always primed to start and always communicating back and forth with the key. Must have been a glitch...

The book says to keep your key at least 15 feet away from your car.Page 21 under Information
