All my life growing up every grade of gas was .10 cents more then the grade below it. Reg $1.00 Middle grade $1.10 Super $1.20. Now the gas we buy is .45 to .50 cents more then reg. I find the oil companies are still ripping people off.Just thinking

Yeah, IDK WTF is up with that either. It was always 10 cents per grade for me growing up as well.

It is annoying but I'm not really complaining, as it costs me like $42 to fill up when it used to be 75, lol.

I think the gas station owners know the people that fill up on Premium tend to not be very price conscious, so they fatten up their margins there

I would prefer if automakers made all their products just 87 octane, I really don't care about the 1% better performance with premium at the expense of hundreds to thousands of extra dollars over the course of vehicle ownership.

I've heard most newer cars are compatible with both, but I usually just fill up with Premium. I've seen conflicting theories about putting lower octane in there

These cars where built when corn was a food. So I even see some Primo with ethanol.

Without rehashing this topic too much, it sure is nice that the tank costs less to fill. I'm commuting between Milwaukee and Chicago now for work (73 miles each way-love the drive) and the savings are appreciated. We'll see how long it lasts...

I read a while back that it had to do with supply and demand. Obviously the vast majority of vehicle use regular unleaded, therefore the refineries produce mostly 87 octane which ups the production cost on mid-grade and premium. Not sure why it has changed over the years though.

The same goes for 100% gas and 10% ethanol gas. The price of 100% gas used to be $0.10-0.20 more and now it's $0.50-0.75 more.

I was actually thinking about this today driving through a poorer area of town.

In the more expensive parts of town where I live and normally spend my time, gas is $2.15 for regular, about $2.65 for high test. Today I found where I was, gas was $1.89 for regular and I was thinking I should get gas while I'm there...then I looked at the high test price....$2.59.

I wonder if the difference is they sell more high test in the better parts of town, so they price it more aggressively. In the poorer areas they sell very little...

I know a lot of you are scared but I have been running 87 in my 430 for the past 8 months and she is perfectly fine. No issues with knocking or noticeable loss in mileage / power. As I'm not wealthy and have plenty of other bills the $12 a tank savings is useful.

The spread between regular and premium at costco here in san diego is only 20 cents though. I always get premium.

I have owned 2 LS400 and now on my 4th 430 and have always used reg. I was not talking about the price i pay just the fact that it is ridiculous what the oil companies can do to us.
