LS430 Brake pedal soft on first press
When I first hit the brake pedal, the pedal goes noticeably further than when I step on it the second time within a few seconds.

Sounds familiar with our cars. We do have a relatively soft pedal. On performance oriented cars such as Infiniti, BMW the pedal is much more sensitive. You may still have air in the system or a need to bleed your brakes and change the fluid. I have a similar pedal for over 5 years and have not yet replaced my fluid. It's your choice and it might help. Let us know how you do.

Brakes systems don't really get air in them unless you open up a line, bleeder or run the reservoir so low that it sucks in air. If that happens, you have bigger problems because you have a leak somewhere.
Is this something that just happened or could it have been that way and you're just noticing it now?
Ive owned the car for the last 100,000 miles and I've never bled the brakes (just over 221,000 now). If you get air in the system and you've never opened it up, there is more wrong with your brakes than just the air.

I have changed a LOT of brakes in my day and unless I had to open a bleeder I have never have to bleed the brakes. Anything is possible but I cant think of a reason to bleed them unless the system was opened up somewhere. A loose cap on the reservoir wouldn't have any affect really.
I'm still trying to figure out why the fluid has to be changed unless you blew a dust seal or a dust seal tore and allowed a caliper piston to rust. That or moisture somehow got in the system???
My car has over 220,000 miles on it. 100,000 miles of that is mine. I have never changed brake fluid on a car including this one and have never had an issue caused by dirty brake fluid.
