430 smart locking - no master key
I have recently bought a 2004 430 which is wonderful. The only downside is the lack of smart locking.
The car came with what I now know is a sub key. I bought a new master key from Lexus but they then told me they can't add it, because the process has to start with an existing master key. The solution they suggest is buying a new locking ecu and key, replacing the existing one, then reprogramming my existing keys with the new Master. This is a $$$$ solution.
My thought was I could maybe get an ecu and key from a breaker, and save a lot of cash. Or does anyone else have a solution? If my pan is the right one, how do I find the part number I need?
Any help is much appreciated. The car is great, but smart locking would make it perfect.
Thanks

when I bought my car it only had a valet key, no master key. I bought a smart key at the dealership in Lubbock Texas and they were able to program it to my car. It was a pain in the ***, but it can be done. it took them 3 hours of trying, but they only charged me for 1 hour of labor. cost was key $195... programming 1 hour at $110.
I have had it almost 3 years and have even changed the battery once. I believe the car can have 3 smart keys, but if all the slots are full, you must delete the old keys before you can use that slot again. You might be able to do it for yourself if you get one of those techstream things Lavishivo is always talking about. my car is a premium so no navigation screen.

I replied yesterday, but got a message that my reply was awaiting moderation and it hasn't appeared, so here's another try.
First off - many thanks! There seem to be possibilities, so it's worth persevering.
I should explain that to date I have been to my local dealer twice. They said it was a half hour job, then when they couldn't do it they rebooked it for a half day and still couldn't do it. They didn't charge me, but said only a new ECU would work.
Then I went to an ex-Lexus guy who has an independent place and was very confident that he could do it. But said he had tried everything and couldn't get it to work.
Finally I tracked down the most recommended auto locksmith and went to him. He got past the immobiliser in minutes, so the new master will now drive the car. But he couldn't get it to communicate with the locking system.
So I thought I had exhausted things I could do with the existing ECU, but maybe not.
I have heard this 16 minutes message before, but this is the first time I have seen it in an official document. But this looks a very high-risk strategy, doesn't it? If I cancel the existing keys then it won't accept anything I have a car that won't move - is that right?
Thanks again for the help so far and any more contributions would be appreciated. I love the car, but smart locking would make it perfect.

Here are some TSIB's on Smart keys related issues. Since I don't know what has been tried, I will leave the reading to you - enjoy!

Thanks for these - much appreciated and I will get reading.
I would love to hear from anyone who has reset the ECU on a 430 - is there anyone who has been down that road?

I erased the previous smart keys stored in the Ecu, but can't add a new master key because I only have a sub key. I'm using Techstream to try to program a new master but don't want to erase my sub key for fear of having a car that can't be cranked. I would also like to know if anyone used techstream to program a new master key when they only received a sub key when buying the car.Update: Got everything working with Techstream, smart functions work better than my Equus and 2015 KiaCadenza. If only I could figure out why my rpms go up to 5 and not down shift until I restart the car

I did! I programmed a master key since I only had the sub key that doesn't have smart functions. Took me about a day of searching the interweb to finally get things working. You will need a SEED code to reset the ECU to accept new or used keys for registration. If you need any help message me, want to save someone any frustrations from dealing with the techstream software.

I bought the software from Amazon and installed it on an old PC running Windows XP,all software came with cable on a CD. I had to erase all keys register to my vehicle and use a SEED code I bought from weboctopus.nl. I also installed a driver update for the x horse VMI cable to 2.04. I used this thread to point me in the right direction http://www.tundratalk.net/forums/tundra-lighting-electrical/110099-offical-techstream-software-thread-settings-such.html#/forumsite/20555/topics/110099?page=1. Really helped me out.
