Default audio head unit

I would like to replace the headunit in the UL/ ML.
Anybody has a suggestion what brand/model would be compatible with the ML system? I would like to use my USB stick or SD card.
6 disk changer is not a priority - single disk is fine
touch screen preferred

You need to figure out your wire harness first.

Once you get the mounting hardware I believe its a matter of picking the double din audio unit that you want.
I was looking into doing this a few weeks ago and priced out the mounting hardware from other sources and it would have cost about $150.00.
The audio unit I wanted was about $200.00.
Installation would be about $150 max. so I was looking at $500.00 to replace the stereo in my LS430.

Here are two examples of an aftermarket head unit.

I'm probably going to go this route.

The examples you show are for the basic trim, without navigation.
Luxury trims have navigation and would be more tricky to deal with.
Navigation and, more importantly, AC controls will stop working if you remove the factory radio, I think there is a hack for that, but you still have to keep the screen to be able to use AC...

thanks for the pictures
what are you doing with the cd player since most of those touchscreen units have the cd player integrated?
Use it as an additional storage compartment?

@tradosauru
are these units compatible with the ML amplifier. I assume the headunit is feeding into the ML amp rather than having all speakers connected to the headunit

I would call these guys and ask about your ML system integration.
I'm assuming that if you have ML system then you have navigation?
If so Crutchfield.com says that there is no factory system upgrades.

On the video I think the guy has the part numbers confused. According to Amazon the 95-8160G is for Double Din installation and the antenna adapter is 40-LX10 not 40-LX11

I made a parts list for the installation hardware for my 2005 Ls430 without nav or ML unit. All these parts can be bought on Amazon and with Prime membership get 2 day free shipping.

$12 - #40-LX10 Antenna Adapter
$10 - #44-EC204 Antenna Extension
$48 - #TYTO-01 Amplifier Integration Interface
$70 - Total

I was going to give these parts to the installer so I didn't have to wait or pay marked up prices. I believe there still needs to be some splicing done but I that is why I would pay the installer. Bestbuy has a $70 charge for installation and you can buy a 4 yr warranty on parts and labor.

$115 - Clarion CX305 2-Din Receiver

thanks, great info
does the unit need an installation bracket?
can you get a "surround" panel that matches the grey trim?
If you have a picture of the installation, that would be great to show the installer the finished product
Does the headunit integrate with the ML amp? I read this is a very finicky piece of equipment
