Default Failing latch for driving glasses compartment

The latch on the driving glasses compartment near the rear-view mirror is stuck (2001 LS430 UL). I tried a silicone spray and it made it worse. This same condition occurred in my previous 2001 LS430. Any ideas on a fix or replacement protocol?
Thanks, Dan

Had the same issue on my '01, Dan. I tried to make the latch work but it wouldn't cooperate. I ended up replacing the assembly with a recycled one. Suggest that you contact recyclers (including those on eBay - if they have a '01 - '03 LS) and price it.

Thanks, Tom57!
Would you happen to recall the part number?

Ther was a post on how to do it. You can remove the latch it's. But you need to remove the asmbly first. And see what is wrong then fix it. Or get a new or used one.

Mine is doing that but I just pull down the button before closing it. I need to look at this repair.

It's the spring-loaded push button lock that is attached to the overhead console assembly with two screws. I don't have a part number for you, Dan. Lexus told me they don't sell that individual part. Ask your L parts department to verify.

Here's a picture of the sunglasses holder latch that binds up and won't latch:

Thanks, Tom! :thumb:

I'll call my usual Lexus parts supplier to see if they can get the part. If not, It'll be a DIY, using the referenced link!

Mine drops down and will not latch when it is -20F. I will come out after sitting all day at work and it is open.

Just a reminder of how fun -20F is. I might get a part if I can DIY fix.

I had this same problem. The latch is not broken, it is just sticky, and will not give a positive "return-to-latched" when retreated. Does anyone know if this part (the latch assembly ONLY) is available for order? Many thanks.
