Default Freakin rashed my rim today....repair options?

I was soooooooooo pissed. I was in a weird very tight parking garage. The LS with its super turning radius was doing great....I came around a tight corner to see a car stopped in the middle of the lane....for the one second that I looked up at this car I heard CRUNCH......the sound of a beautiful 2004 LS430 rim roaching itself on a half destroyed rough edged curb.....it was one of those curbs that direct u to the right so u cant go straight....obviously had been hit 100 times before me....prob is you are going up hill so u cant see this curb over the hood of the car.......anyway screw it...time to move forward

The rim got rashed for about 3 inches....not a total loss but not pretty either. The car rode the same on the way home so its still balanced. Anyone had success with local rim guy grinding out...buffing..and clear coating? Or should I hunt a nice used rim? Mine are 17's

In many cities there are local places that repair and touch up rims as long as the damage is not severe. Most cases they sand the rash, fill with body putty if required and then prime and paint with a silver that comes as close as possible to matching. Cost I think is usually about $100-150. I've repaired one of my wheels of light rash as a diy - fairly labor intensive - came out pretty good, invisible to the casual observer. Given the labor involved, and sanding mess, next time I mess up a wheel, I'd likely take it to a repair/touch up place.

Your local Lexus dealer - service advisor - knows this sort of guy. Find out when their wheel guy is in town and all you have to do is be at the dealer lot when he's there as well and you get the rim back to looking good for a small number.

Oh I feel for you. My wife did the same to my '02 to not just one but both right side wheels. Took them to the yota dealer and he said since they're chromes they cannot be touched up locally so I would have to send the wheels to another state somewhere which I'm not going to do. They've held tire pressure but I hate to look at them.
Looks like you have the matte silver finish so you will probably be ok in getting the rash taken care of.
Good luck.

They can definitely be refinished back to new, not to worry...about $150. I have a place up in Laytonsville, MD but its probably too far for you. I'm sure there are a ton of places in Northern, VA.

Alloy wheel repair specialist is a company with mobile guys all over maryland that do most car dealers and brand franchises. Might have one in Virginia too or close by.

Ouch. They'll fix it up.

check ebay or craigslist too…for $150 you might find a used wheel with no rash same price.

or....you can have my spare tire. I have been trying to give it away.... I bought a chrome wheel to replace the 17 inch alloy wheel that was in my trunk. chrome wheel $250... used tire....$100 old spare tire is sitting in the closet because I have been too lazy to carry it to the dumpster.

as others have said you can certainly repair it, big thing is that the rim is balanced and holds air ( is not cracked). but OEM wheels are pretty damn strong.

send me an address and I will ship it. I will have to have the tire removed as I do not have a box big enough and it is as old as my car anyway 17 inch 6 spoke alloy wheel.
