Thank you.
I had been looking for about a month. I actually stumbled across a newly listed, privately owned, 1998 LS 430 on craigslist that was in immaculate condition last week and passed it up. I didn't understand how hard it is to find a clean Lexus.
The one I bought today was just listed at a Lexus dealer.
The few I saw today were not in the best shape on the outside.

Congratulations! Stay up on the fluids if they have not been done. Transmission, differential, brake, power steering, etc.
As far as 87 vs premium goes, the car will have more power and a bit better efficiency on premium but if 87 does not cause it to knock then it won't hurt anything. Many people have been running 87 for years without issues. I recently switched and mine runs just as good with 87 as 93. I used to be a staunch premium supporter but I have come to see it matters little with our engines. Maybe a little less mileage but the $11 per tank savings by far offsets this.
I would makes sure to run a good fuel system cleaner every 3k miles to combat all the ethanol in the fuel. Personally, I like the big bottle of Dura Lube severe fuel system cleaner at Walmart.

There is no need to run a fuel cleaner, much less every 3,000 miles. If you want to make yourself feel better and dump fuel cleaner in there, maybe once every 10,000-15,000 miles is sufficient. Even that's overkill, though.

No NAV DVD that I'm aware.
Also the nice salesman told me that the timing belt was recently completed. He showed me paperwork where Lexus supposedly changed it after the previous owner traded it in.
However when I go to the mylexusdriver website there is no mention of it.
I might perform a cursory inspection of the timing belt.

Congrats on the new Lexus! I am 7 months in with my 2004 pearl white LS and I LOVE THIS CAR!
I've been wondering if I could update my NAV for a while now. Do you have a part number for the new disc?

Great buy... I saw that one posted by Sewell but didn't make it down there. Bought my first LS 430, a 2001 model with 90k on it the same way. Was and still is a great car. Has about 150k on it now and running as strong as ever. I'm a believer in higher octane though, so I don't spend much time reading those controversial threads.
Enjoy the new ride and hope it treats you well. Welcome to the forum!

I just finished washing with Dawn liquid, clay bar, washing again with Meguiars soap, and waxing with Meguiars Gold Class Carnuba wax using a polisher.
I noticed a few areas that need touch up paint and the front grill looks like it needs reconditioned if that is possible.
With 3 of us it took us 2 hours.
