I was able to fit my 5inch 1911 with magazine (single stack) just a moment ago.
Do you have any pics you would mind posting?

I wonder if they changed the container size under there because I can't even fit something like my wife's tiny .32 caliber Kel-Tec under there. About the only thing smaller is a Derringer. My LS is a 2004.

Here's just a sample photo:

I have 1911 (not a compact), and you could barely fit the clip in that spot.

And fortunately I live in a state that respects the 2nd Amendment and allows people to carry a firearm in their car. The idea that the 2nd Amendment only applies to someone owning a firearm under their bed with a license is absurd.

I find you can easily store 6-7 ninja stars and a few granulated salt packs to spit at assailant's eyes.

The better question is if it's easily accessible. If you can't get to the weapon quickly, then it's in the wrong spot.

So I tried my commander size Colt and this is what it looks like. Maybe I didn't turn it the right way?

Brad, the storage drawer under the driver's seat on my '01 - '03 is larger than the drawer on my '04 - '06. Don't know if the CL (with seat cooler fans) is the reason, or if all '04 - '06 has a smaller drawer.

Thanks, that must be the reason, mine is an '04 and has the cooler fans. I'm not even sure I can fit my wallet in that thing.

Sadly I do not have a photo and I recently totaled the car. Mine was an 01 ls430. Springfield Armory 1911 "loaded". You have to use the original 7rd magazine OR leave the extended clip (10rd CA max) to the side.

It should lay flat, barrel of the firearm should sit parallel with the side of the storage container.

I have to assume the 01 had a much larger compartment than the pictured 04.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your car.

I keep a knife there. Was traveling, bought something, couldn't open package with my hands.

Yes, I'm a retired Peace Officer.
Your location (NY) explains that comment. Here in Texas the attitude is better because the police recognize that a legally carried gun is by a person that has passed a background check so is very unlikely to cause problems for the officer.

If I am awake, I am carrying. Have I ever used it in defense, no, that is why I carry it. In places where one cannot carry, one is more likely to need it, NY, Chicago, LA. Where it is allowed the need dimenishes because the assailants understand that their victim may not be defenseless.

Further, it improves your driving to be carrying. You become aware that should you flip the finger at another car and it is called in that you brandished a weapon, you will be in big trouble just because you DO have one in the car, whether you brandished it or not.

My KelTec P-40 wont fit in the drawer so I carry it on my belt, but I will guess the AR-15 will fit in the trunk that can be accessed from the back seat??

weapon under drivers seat-derringer-drawer.jpg

The 25 cal over and under Cobra derringer fits. The old fashioned 44 cal derringer doesnt.

I think part of it is because you know its your word against his if someone says you did "brandish" and with the weapon on board, even if you didnt, it gives him the upper hand in the "he said, said." argment.

But another reason for the more tempered attitude is that you KNOW you are top dog so you no longer have to drive aggressively to prove how big your ......................LOL

As to the gun drawer...I would not put one in there because trying to get it out in a hurry is not easy....I tried.....you would be dead before you got it out.

I think this thread is interesting and informative since we have discovered that 01-03 LS430 has a larger under seat storage drawer than the 04-06 models. It has however run its course and may be drifting into territory that has very little to do with LS430.
