How much is a 2004 model worth in current market?
Would KBB value be the way to go? or is the car's 'street value' worth more? I don't have any other high mileage LS430s to compare this one to, but the lower mileage 04's seem to hover between 10 and 15k depending on miles. I'm really in no rush to sell it, but would like to have the cash set aside for my next home purchase. I purchased the car in a time when I knew I would be doing a lot of travel. I find myself driving my Civic more often these days so I think it's time to let the luxury barge go.
A little info about it. It's a clean title 2004 with 203k miles. Modern luxury package. Sport suspension package. Smart access key. All options work. No leaks, no rust, no dents or scratches on the body. Sometimes i can't believe it's 11 years old.
Has some relatively minor issues which may affect value. The biggest of which is it will likely need timing belt service at this mileage. Dealer charges an arm and a leg but I've found that most mechanics are able to work on the timing belts on these engines relatively easily (and on the cheap side)
It does have rock chips on front bumper/hood area from highway travel but nothing major. Previous owner must have used harsh cleaning chemicals on wheels as they are peeling in some areas.
Front passenger seat has a tear.
cupholder is finicky and works when it wants to.
The hood support shocks are weak,
Passenger side door locks are on their way out. I replaced the driver side door motor for the actuator but the other ones are now needing replacement as well.
Has michelin tires with about 75-80% tread life remaining but one tire was replaced when it had a flat. That tire is triggering a false low tire light. Cabin air filter, engine air filter and rear brakes and sensor have been replaced. Front brakes still have plenty of life. Interior lights upgraded to LED, along with license plate and trunk. 35% window tint.

I would say around the $8k-$9k range as it stands. If it had all the issues addressed like the timing belt service, etc, probably closer to $10k. Some of it is regional, but cars with over 200k miles are just hard to sell, it's a big psychological barrier that most buyers just don't want to go near.
I would though get a quote on getting the upholstery fixed before you sell, that could end up being a cheap repair that makes a big difference in how the car is perceived.

Thanks for the responses. I figured $9k would be about what I would feel comfortable with letting it go for. I would understand that some folks may not even be interested at this mileage but those are the ones looking at the higher priced 430s anyway. I know if I change my mind and decide to keep it, I found a toyota tech that can do it for $350 if I bring the parts. Good tip on the seat quote BradTank.
Yes johnnylt, CD player and nav work flawlessly lol. I didn't know that was a weak point in the LS.

if you decide to sell it, provide info as to what suspension work has been done, because a knowledgeable buyer will surely want to know. Engine and trans can comfortably go to 300k, but front end will need to be redone if it hasn't already.
if it were me....if the car had TB done, front seat repaired, good maint records, suspension done, it would be worth the 8-9k. the rock chips, hood shocks, cup holder, etc not issues for me. It becomes the good starter car for a child.

I have seen ls430 with well under 200k miles in the $8-$9k range. It would be hard for me to pay more for a newer one that has more wear. It seems once these cars hit 200k they exponentially go down in price. List the car high and see what happens. You will see where the market is in the first few weeks if you get no bites.

I recently bought an '06 with 100k. Looks just like yours minus the nav. No issues with the body, one small tear on the drivers door arm rest and the smart key system isn't working. Timing belt had recently been done. Was provided every service record and full vehicle history. All maintenance and services done at the Lexus dealer. Paid $12k for it.

'06 ML Black Onyx/Black with about 100K miles. Very clean. Everything works. Tires and brakes recent too. No accidents. TB/WP and all other required maintenance done at Lexus at scheduled intervals. Paid $12.8K in June.

So it looks like once you get to 200k miles these cars drop in value faster than a politician's promise after election day.
I'll report back with what I end up selling her for. I won't be expecting as much as I would have liked but at the same time I wouldn't mind keeping it until the right offer comes along.

Yea, you would be crazy not to buy a new Tacoma for what people are asking for used ones. Makes me wonder if people actual pay those prices! Stupid!
