Default How to Remove Rear Outside Door Handle?

I need to replace the outside rear door handle plug assembly. The black color-coded cap fell off. The sub-assembly is a small piece that has a threaded bolt hole that attaches from inside the door to the corner of the outside door handle.

Has anyone ever done this or have instructions on how to get at the inside of the door handle and remove this sub-assembly? I took the door panel off and reached in, but it's not clear how the cap assembly is attached.

Here's the sub-assembly part: http://www.lexussouthatlantaparts.co...0850010C0.html

Thank you rkw, as always.

It looks like step # 22. One bolt and the cover assembly comes off. It looks as I expected, but when I get inside the door, it's not so. The pic from the repair manual isn't clear. Perhaps I have to remove the door lock assembly to get to the handle cover bolt ... ?

I think you're right... The bolt is behind the door lock assembly.

The repair manual shows what I expected, so I'll go back inside the door frame and check it out. It should be pretty simple. Thanks again rkw!

Yeah, the rears a tad tricky. You have to remove the locking mechanism in order to reach the bolt holding the outside cover.

I had to remove it to replace the cover that fell off from the previous owner.
