They bear more similarities in person than those pics reveal.

I'm guessing not too many people have seen a 500 first-hand. Living in the Motor City, I get to see plenty of every single car sold in the U.S. But an absolute plethora of domestics.

I've been places (Florida, for one) where, even a full year and a half after the release of the Lincoln MKZ, there were people who had never seen a single one and didn't know the car even existed! So I've gotta imagine that a lowly domestic dog of a car like the Ford 500 (which set no sales records) hasn't been seen by most folk.

Any car can look like a Lexus. But I assure you, once inside, there is no comparison. Once on the road, no comparison!

Looks are 100000000% subjective. Raw, hard data is not. It's not even up for debate which one is the more reliable car. 430>460. Ask any Lexus tech or service advisor, or look at consumer reports.

I noticed the Ford 500/Taurus does have a similar look in the front to the 01-03 LS430.

I hate those cars. They're so ugly.

As for refinement and all, I've never driven a Ford Five Hundred/Taurus, but an old CL member "Kansas" who had a 1990 LS and then a 2000 LS until replacing his LS with a Sienna Minivan a few years ago recounted to me one time that he rented a Five Hundred one time on a trip and was surprised by how much it reminded him of his LS when driving it. The interior on them is terrible...
Hi Steve! Old? Yes, but I'm still kicking. Yes, that Ford 500 hundred I rented for two weeks in Virginia in 2006 seemed very similar in feel to my 2000 LS400 and was the most enjoyable vehicle I have ever rented including that Infinity M35 that I rented for 10 days. The Interior of the Ford 500 was definitely not Lexus LS quality but it did seem on par with the Lexus ES and RX of 2006. The thread about the Ford 500 I did on Lexus Owners Club forum has photos on the second page: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums...ipoff/?hl=ford

And the fully optioned 2014 Sienna Limited not-so-minivan special ordered last year has turned out to be the most enjoyable and practical vehicle I have ever owned. It's huge - has a track width four inches more than an LS460 and a wheelbase of over 119 inches. Here (again) is that "slightly modified" photo of my wife sitting in one of the Sienna's middle row seats when I picked her up at the airport and she saw the Sienna for the first time ... feet up, glass of Chardonnay, roller blinds up, a favorite movie on the rear video screen. Its PCS has already saved my a$$ when a car pulled in front of me when I was going about 60 mph - brakes slammed on with full force and seat belt tightened painfully - collision avoided by inches.

Hey man! I saw you post the other day, glad to see you're doing well.

Did you notice what I've got now...a 2015 Kia Sedona minivan with those same second row seats LOL. We have 5 month old twins. Had to get me an LS460 too so I could still have fun

I will tell you...I like the van a lot more than I thought I would. It is incredibly practical, and the amount of stuff we can take with us when we travel is unbelievable. We just got back from a weekend in PA with it. It has radar cruise and PCS and all also. Would have had to order a Sienna with those options and we couldn't wait, needed the van for a trip. Plus the Kia was about $5k cheaper.

PS, your wife looks very familiar in that picture....

SOME similarities for sure. But you are talking both different worlds here. This Ford isn't even a top of the line vehicle.

It was the top of the line Ford at the time.
