Default 2004 LS430 vs New Camaro V6

So this is entertaining. I was coming home last night and a new Camaro V6 was revving his engine trying to entice me to race him. So I decided to surprise him.

I'm honestly surprised I beat him as those cars are pretty fast. 323 hp with a 5.9 0-60. I did not even bother turning the AC off or preload. I love the 430. Such a great car. I can't imagine his reaction as he thinking grandpa just took him...

Forgot to plug in the gps unit so no mph data.

NICE, Lavrishevo!!! Nice...

Same thing happened to me last week. The victim was a current model Audi A8. I don't know the engine or 0-60 specs, but prior to launch, I flipped on the Power and cut my AC. He was trying to get the jump on me from the light for the upcoming single lane of road ahead. He never got past my rear bumper.

Something tells me he could have taken me (or at least should have been able to), but chickened out after the first 5 seconds.

Looking good! I love it.

An Escalade recently tried to blow past me on the right at a stop sign...the 2 lanes merged to 1 lane about 200 yards ahead. Normally I let these Yo-Yos sail by. But because I find Escalades generally offensive, I nailed the LS throttle, played with them for the first 100 yards, before bursting their bubble. For a luxo barge, the LS430 can be seriously quick.

these cars are solid 14 sec qtr mile cars all day long. That's plenty respectable for a large comfy sedan, utmost reliability, and 27mpg on the highway. Pretty amazing actually.

I would not mind doing the headers upgrade. I think this and a bit of exhaust work would equal about 25-30 horse power which is pretty decent. Honestly, I have a lot better things to spend my money on at this time.

BAHAHAHA!!! How far behind you was he? Sounds like you got up to about 75ish?

This is great and made me chuckle because I had a similar situation with a newish V6 manual Mustang a year or so back(the one with 305HP--quick cars) and I swear, I'll never forget this-- the guy looked over at me as if he'd seen a ghost when he couldn't pull ahead as I passed. It wasn't a huge runaway by any means, but a legit and solid win..

Also has a similar situation with an 08 Acura TL type S. Biggest "WTF" look I've ever seen, lol. My previous car was an 06 TL 6 speed, also verrry fast, but torqueless. I jumped him off the line with the V8 pull.

Raced a previous generation Escalade (not as fast as the brand new ones, but 403hp and still plenty quick)) and it was his front bumper at my door till 30-40, then I pulled ahead like crazy.. Mad props to the smallblocks in those.

What really makes our cars (04-06) take off other than the obvious power is the gearing. First gear is very short. Floor it from rest and the car just leaps off the line, and bam you're already in second. Our cars also have realllly long legs. I've driven mine at 130 plenty of times for decent stretches (all safe). Feels just like a big MB or BMW does at such high speeds. The limiter sucks, bc the car is not by any means done accelerating. I honestly believe this car would reach 160 if ungoverned.

The gearing is amazing, in terms of top end, there are a few videos posted of "ungoverned" LS430s (somewhere in the Mideast) doing apprx 155-160 mph.

Here is one example - got to love this guy's seat belt light flashing when he is going apprx 160mph - (260kph x.62 = 161.2 mph)

Uhhhhhh...yeah.

Doesn't surprise me one bit. They do some outlandish things with vehicles over there. YouTube's full of it. I'm talking stuff like one guy driving a car on two wheels while one passenger hangs outside a rear door (door held open by a third passenger), unbolts the rear wheel, takes it off, holds it up in the air, then puts it back and bolts it back down. All of this while the car rides down the highway on it's side. K-RAAAZY STUFF!

Probably about 65-75 or so before I slowed down for the intersection. Really, the 430 is not that fast and we all know this but it's not slow either. The car does weight 3,000 lbs without fuel and passengers. It's more the surprise factor. It's a sleeper as they say.

I used to own a 2005 Mustang GT that had a custom tune with a SCT tuner, the best cold air intake at the time, Kooks long tube headers, racing high flow cats with 3" exhaust piping connected to Borla mufflers. Also put on a Hurst short throw shifter. Anyway, that car was a beast. It was not supercharged but it was pretty fast. Nobody wanted to race me. It would do 60 in about 4.5 seconds. But I don't miss it to tell you the truth. It was fun and exciting but also a cop magnet and not comfortable at all. Especially, in traffic. Nightmare to drive that thing in traffic using a Hurst shifter. Leave you sore in a short period of time.

Thanks for sharing this. I've won my share of these "grandpa's luxury liner" 430 vs. stock "hot rods with cool racing stripes and spoilers." The auto shifting isn't bad, but I typically go manual and shift at about red line. Torque that doesn't quit and top end in the 430, which is a rare combo. The look of embarrassment and wonder when they're beat and they pull up at the next stop and are all red-faced and upset is worth the risk of the run. You installed the camera just in time.
