Well, as she was aggressively accelerating over the cover her tire(s) kicked up a shower of asphalt / rocks that was put on at the edge of the large metal plate. This shower of debris came raining down on my front half of the car. It was horrible to say the least.

In California when there's a construction site as you explained, and the debris damages your car its almost always covered by the state/ or the sub they hired to do the work. You may want to check into that.

I haven't noticed the vibration on mine like you have. I will say that the wide angle lens I bought from Ebay shows the mount on one side of the screen and gives a bit of a fisheye look with it's wider view. I think that I wouldn't spend the extra $10 on it now.

Off topic but how much did a replacement windshield set you back?

$190 installed is what I paid. The chrome top molding was about $35.

Yes I run a dash cam, I need to hardwire it though since I have it running in glove box currently.

I did not replace my windshield after this incident. It's not that bad. What was frustrating was that the windshield was replaced all of 8 or so months ago due to a big rock cracking it and was in beautiful shape. Maybe a few tiny pits but nothing you could see unless you really looked hard for them.

Anyway, it's fine. It was more the frustration that she thought she could save a few seconds and slams on the gas which causes her to spin the tires and shower me with debris. I'm sure she did not intend to do this. Oh well.

A bmw barreling towards are broken down car cutting into my lane and then a Nissan lumbering along at 45 mph hit the brake right when I'm trying to exit. I swear, drivers here are getting worse by the day...

I am impressed with the low light quality. This was at 9:15pm when this was taken. Set to 1080 for best quality.

Surprised nobody commented on the AHOLE @ 2:23 in the white BMW or Benz?

It was a 5 series. It comes natural for BMW drivers...

I posted too soon! Then the black escalade @ 2:55, then the ahole silver camry at 2:59. Lots of jerkoffs driving that highway. Sad that I'm getting annoyed just watching the video on my COUCH at home.

They all come out Friday and Saturday nights. DUI / DWI is most popular during these times. Not to mention the Nissan that was going 45 mph and decided to brake right as I'm trying to exit. I thought at the time maybe I cut them off if they were trying to exit but no blinker. After I passed them they did not change lanes. Just slowing down to about 30 mph and causing all kind of problems. Now you know why I want to run a camera.

I've been considering a camera for some time now. Traffic in Chicago metro area is more congested and worse than ever, and trending down.

I've been running a Black Box G1W-C since November, 2014. Had it hard wired in the front of rear view mirror initially but didn't like the large signature. Ordered Black Box B40 in May. Moved G1W-C to rear window(on side) and placed B40 to right of rain sensor. I like the small signature of the B40 and it does not stand out too much. Both are hard wired just to ignition-on only. The quality is adequate for me. I will eventually get rid of the G1W-C and replace it with another B40, and eventually have 360 coverage including interior. I'm thinking about taking two of the B40's apart and run them "hidden".

I have also been eyeing the Falcon and Kdlinks. There are some good units out there. Honestly, I think my S4 does just of a good of a job. The biggest benefit to the S4 is the battery life. I have a 6,000 mh battery on this thing and it last forever but I may go for a permanent unit in the near future.

What I like about the KDLINKS is the 1.6 fstop and this:

(Tested: 6+ hours in 170°F, 6+ hours in -40°F).
Heat is a major factor particularly here in the South during the summer.

The main reason I went with a dedicated dash cam is that the Galaxy S3 I was using is also my active cellphone. Taking it in and out every time combined with starting and quitting the app every time became a nuisance. I also had to take it down from the windshield whenever parking due to Fla heat. The dash cams without a battery are the way to go as they're unaffected by heat. I agree about the available phone apps being very versatile and customizable. The video quality is excellent on a cell cam.
