truly one of the best bargains in autos these days. Do the math on an 01 to 03, total cost of ownership for say 5 yrs, you would be hard pressed to find more car for less.

The one I plan on looking at next week is an 01 UL

Clean CarFax, one owner after lease, priced below my budget and even comes with a dealer warranty (which is pretty much bunk in my eyes, but they must have some faith in this car if they're actually offering it).

I've already set aside a budget for coil-overs (don't want any issues with air) as well as a timing belt kit as the seller isn't sure if/when it was last replaced

I do A LOT of driving and my current DD/Primary vehicle (97 Land Cruiser) has over 401,xxx miles




I trust her more than any vehicle I've ever owned and she's ready to drive around the world at the drop of a hat

There's no other vehicle I'd rather drive on a daily basis, but my new job requires parking in areas where I don't feel comfortable leaving a highly accessorized vehicle.

She's irreplaceable, so I'm on the hunt for another comfortable vehicle that is just as bulletproof, but without all the excess flair

For my budget, the LS430 seems like the proper choice

Now, question about the 01's vs 02's and later....

Being a first model year, were there any known bugs or kinks that were worked out in the following years?

Mine ( 2004 LS430 ) has 238k miles and goes like 38k car, just make sure all fluids are changed regularly and trimming belt etc in order.

245K on my 2001 LS430, daily driver, never had any major issues. Only car I've had since 2004. Mostly just normal maintenance, never anything major. Purrs like a kitten every time I get in it. Can't ever find a reason to get rid of it.

I'm at 237,xxx and just did a 4k mile road trip over the 4th of July week and had zero issues, seriously one of the most enjoyable road trips I've ever taken!

I'm at over 200K miles and even though there are things that I've replaced and things that I still intend to replace, it's a great car to have for high mileage use...

I've owned both a 1994 LS400 and my current 2002 LS430 and they've both been practically bulletproof.

The only non-maintenance work was control arms on the 94 (tho I suspect the Tanabe springs increased the strain on them) and on the 02 I've replaced the alternator.
Most importantly, I've never been stranded by either.

Traded mine in somewhere close to 345,000 miles. Used daily in transportation fleet, since new.

What did they give you for trade in? It seems like it would be next to impossible for a dealer to sell a car with that many miles.

Hi all,

Looking at/seriously considering purchasing this 2006 LS430. It has 141k miles and I was wondering if that was too many based on the vehicle's online appearance & the CarFax info? I think I can get the price down a little bit more as well. I've seen some clean 2001/2002 versions with closer to 100k miles but I like the black and the fact its got the black rims already (wouldn't have to pay for a set myself), and I've heard these cars can go for much longer. I know I need to see it before making anything final but is this one worth pursuing or should I pursue others instead? Thanks for any info!

Any car out of the East coast, I usually would take a pass. This has a few gaps in maintenance history and it looks like the timing belt/pump have not been done. I would continue to look for another LS out where you reside(AZ)... Florida also has some nice LS's...

Yeah, the mileage isn't an issue when the maintenance has been done. I would pass on this one unless everything has been done. That price is right for a car that has been very well taken care of, but high if maintenance has been put off. I do like the looks of those rims, though.

Out of place, black stock rims aside(unless you plan on hitting up the local FBI tryouts).. everything looks really nice on that one. However, you know it's never had the service it needs if it still has all the plastic pins holding the covers in place under the hood they could've replaced them I guess... I doubt it. Power steering fluid is bad, brake fluid likely bad, tranny fluid never done, timing belt likely not done(sale breaker for me at that mileage).. black wheels..

You'll find that isn't high mileage. The car only has about 14-15K miles per year, which is average.. and on top of that the mileage is low anyway for what lurks under the hood no matter the year.

I know from experience that Florida has a lot of LS's.. that they ship in from New York. I'd say buy it, but first talk them down 3k and bring up the cheap tires they put on the flagship for Lexus. Well, at least they aren't BF Goodrich TA's.
