Nope, not at the Lexus dealer; but at my local Toyota dealer where I always go. Same oil, same filter so why should I go to the Lexus dealer and get robbed?

Not a bad deal if using full syn and you can't do your own oil. I pay 25 for the mobile1 full syn and about 5 for a good filter, then do it myself. Nothing beats the peace of mind knowing the filter and drain bolt are tightened correctly and the right amount of oil is in the engine. PEACE OUT

you got that right....or that the plastic underbody panels are properly replaced with all bolts, etc. sheesh the dealers do sloppy work

When I purchased my 02' LS430 last year, I didn't realize that the under engine cover was missing. The prior owner had 100% Lexus dealer maintenance. I guess they got tired of pulling the thing off and on to do oil/filter changes. I've since replaced it but it really is a PITA to take that thing off and on when doing the oil/filter changes. I'd rather have it on protecting the under carriage of the car.

What do you mean remove the under engine cover. The flap that is covering the oil filter is only two screws. Once off, the flap folds towards the front and you can keep in place with one of the screws. Nothing to "remove" persay. I change myself synthetic with Toyota filter for about $33...

As Anja said, there is access to the filter without removing the whole cover. I believe I counted like 22 bolts holding the whole cover last time I removed it.

you have to cut the oil filter access cover out because when the cover is new its non-cut.when our cars were new and they have there first oil change the lexus tech would cut the opening for the oil filter.

I get mine done for $15 here in Colorado. It's cheaper than I can do it myself. They are Toyota/Lexus/Scion specialist. They were trained by Toyota and still attend all update seminars. They only use OEM parts.

I buy Mobil1 Synthetic oil for my 05 LS and SC300 at Walmart for $23. My mechanic changes it for $10 or I'll get it done at the dealership for $15 if my mechanic is busy.

For the 02 LS I use Mobil1 Super or whatever it's called and it's about $15 for five quarts.

No wonder I didn't have the cut-out! I purchased it new after I bought the car. I may have to do that cut manually since my car won't see a dealer anytime soon.

I use Mobil1 5W-30 Extended Protection with a FRAM Ultra oil filter (oversize XG3600). Wal-Mart price is $26 a gal, filter runs about $9.

I drive a ton of miles so doing my oil every 8 weeks or so is tough especially when 20 below. I take it to my dealer to develop a relationship with them as I log 35k a years and they do t belt pump belts for 600 bucks.

I get a fair deal on everything they do from tires to brakes to dif changes tranny changes all way below what others pay. Now if ya drive alot less i can see not much of a need for too much service so great for you. Only time they made a mistake was the wrong wheel bearing then I got one for free on my last LS.

Last change was 25 bucks for mobil one, 11 bucks to do it plus cost of filter, check nitro, vacumn, wash and jawed about the Badger Game future NCAA champs. Now I go skiing with them on the weekends.

This is at my Yota dealer ya Benetea its 75 bucks for dino including a rotation at Lexus but I get free rotations so it is not of value at Lexus dealer. They will test drive it every time but so what I know if my car needs anything I practically live in it.

I save very little doing my own oil changes but it's more about making sure it's done right with quality oil and filer. Also, sometimes it takes more time and effort to take it in than just doing it yourself at your house.

But, the entire reason shops make oil changes "loss leaders" is to drive business to their location for other services to find upsell opportunities. If a business is breaking even or even losing a bit of money on a job, sometimes the job is done half-assed when they don't get that out of a customer.

Most of these dealers doing 15-35.00 oil changes probably aren't using a full synthetic if I had to take a guess. It's either dino oil or semi synthetic out of the huge drums from the cheapest bid supplier in that area.

After working at multiple dealerships I wouldn't trust the guys that do the oil/tire rotations to work on a skateboard as they are the least trained often youngest high turnover guys in the shop. I've seen way too many overfills, Underfills, stripped drain plugs, overtightened filters etc.

For the 25 minutes it takes to do the oil yourself it's worth the piece of mind knowing you're getting top of the line synthetic, New drain plug gasket and a premium oversize filter. I use Royal Purple with Motorcraft filter and lexus gasket and even after 6-9k miles between changes the oil still looks fresh and brand new.
