Frequency of soft close door lock actuator failure?
Was browsing the repair history of an 04 LS430 I found for sale and came across this:
So that makes me wonder:
a) Is this the right price!?
b) Do these commonly fail, or is this a rare occasion?
Did some investigating and the actuator list price appears to be $659, and book time is an hour labor. I'm wondering how this particular Lexus dealer ended up with this price.
From what I can tell on the standard LS without the soft close doors, the actuator is part of the lock assembly and comes in at $133. So as assumed it is less than the fancy motorized actuator.
Anyone have experience with this?

It almost looks like the repair was both to replace the soft close actuator and the power door lock? So two repairs and two parts total. That's just a guess, but it's definitely an eye popping number.
I see things like this and I'm glad I got a stripped down, regular LS

From what the one line of description says from the repair order, it looks as if the actuator and "easy close" mechanism are all one assembly.
SO, if the actuator fails and you are unable to lock or unlock the door, that means you have to replace the entire actuator/easy close assembly rather than just an actuator?

Same here, 2004 with 128k and I've never had an issue with any of mine. As BradTank suggested, it was probably just the actuator and the dealer wanted to replace the entire door lock assembly.

Considering how many people in the 430 forum HAVE talked about this issue and I've never known anyone to replace a door lock on their auto lock cars, I'd almost call this a defect. My auto door closer works- but the passenger lock will not lock/unlock on it's own and needs to be adjusted from inside the car.
