ls430 sound system

This is a tough question. Akin to what is the best shampoo.
If you are desiring to just get your sound system playing again with decent sound I recommend replacing the foam in your blown speakers. It is an easy DIY job that costs about $20 per speaker. Our systems are very low power and without replacing every component I have heard bad things about just replacing speakers with aftermarket. I have read that the ohm impedance is very high with the factory speakers and it not possible to directly replace the individual speakers with an equivalent one.
If, however, your desire is to trash the entire system-head unit, amp, and speakers-there are a ton of choices. Your budget is the determining factor.
My ML system sounded like crap with the sub rattling on every low note. I re-foamed this speaker and then found that one of my front door speakers was shot too. I re-foamed both of them and presto-a pretty decent sound again.
I got my parts here http://www.parts-express.com/cat/spe...efoam-kits/328 but I know there are others that may do the job also.

The re-foaming approach is a good one. I believe that an online search would yield companies that would rebuild the speakers for a reasonable fee.
That said, I am sure that some CL members have had success with the aftermarket replacement route. I would be interested in their experience. Many have used aftermarket sub-woofers to replace the OEM ML ones. I am just looking for good overall sound, nothing too esoteric or glass-shattering. Has anyone had good success replacing the door or rear deck speakers?

Agreed.... I refoamed the front door speakers and the sub, and it sounds very good.
Remember, ML systems are very high quality. Anything you replace the speakers with will not be matched to the rest of the system, which will effect the sound output...
