Default Tips for shaving rear quarter panels/ fenders

So I lowered my car a bit and I rub over any bump or dip when my car is full lol. I am going to try and shave my rears this weekend. I am going to use a belt sander with 50 or 80 grit sandpaper. I am just worried about the weld spots. Does anyone have any tips and also how much can I shave before I get to the welds? Leave maybe 1/8 inch or 1/4? Thank you

From what I've read, everyone says to shave the rears due to being very thick and can dimple if rolled. The fronts everyone says to roll though.

Thanks for showin lg me your thread, it gave me some insight on how to do it. I just finished today actually.I masked off the area and to have a line to follow, then I used an angle grinder with a metal cutting wheel to cut. After I used a belt sander with 80 grit sandpaper to sand it all smooth. I then primed and sprayed rubberized undercoating on the exposed metal to prevent rusting. Will probably do a second coat tomorrow. I haven't test drove to see if I rub still or not. Hopefully its all good now

Sorry for bumping the old thread, but when everyone shaves the quarters, are you removing the trim pieces on the arch or are you figuring out a way to keep them?

If you cut more than a few mm you will lose the plastic bits that the trim screws into. I guess you could maybe find a way to attach the trim back to the remaining lip withbadhesive or a clip, but to answer your question, you lose the trim when you cut

I had to remove the plastic trim piece when I shaved my rear quarters!

Have you done them yet? I’m trying to figure out how much to take off on mine. Or if I should pull a bit first... I was told it’s hard to pull after you’ve cut.

Have you considered a fender roller tool or the phone book/magazine method?

Rolling the welded rear fenders doesn't work, they dimple.
You have to cut them (I used a cutoff wheel from harbor freight and no experience, came out fine, just need to be careful!)
