You can find a better deal probably. When I got my car 2 weeks ago, I saw several cars with around that miles on ebay. I paid 12600 for a 02 UL with 80k miles loaded.

Give her your lowest price and wait. She'll come to her senses. There's no way anyone would pay that much.

just wait her out...you are in a stronger position than you think. Main reason is that these are not rare cars....they are all over the place at reasonable prices, from people that will deal. Second reason is that her price is above market....she *could* get lucky but not likely.

Honestly, 18k is not that high. The car has only 50 thousand miles on it. KBB values the car at $20,000 in good condition. The reality is, your local market will mostly determine what the going price is. Single owner cream puffs are my favorite too.

Thanks guys.

i am not desperate or anything for this car. As many of you have said, it isn't rare by any means.

She is playing a "Game" that has no participants.

Call her back and again offer the $16,500. Tell her she has a day to decide or you will be buying another car.

It's a lot easier to be a good negotiator when you really don't want it that bad.

The dealer records sound like the stealership really took advantage of her. You're talking thousands in unneeded repairs.

What's ironic is only now is she playing "hardball" yet you're the one now making a fair offer. Where was this attitude when the dealership was taking her for a ride?

I wouldn't be surprised if the son calls you and just gives his mom the difference and tells her you paid the asking price. I remember having to play those games with my grandma towards the end of her years.

If the old lady is so seriously attached to the car emotionally that she has to have $18k, there isn't anything coming of this. Her son probably wants her to unload it but she doesn't want to part with it. Good thing you aren't totally into the car as this would drive some people nuts. Keep coming down with your offers, make it fun.

Check this one out. Still has a warranty too. Cars from the south tend to be some of the best.
