Default 05 LS430 transmission replacement

My transmission is slipping, won't reverse - it is broken at 164K miles.

I need your advice:
Option 1: replace with Lexus Dealer refurbished transmission that comes with 1 yr warranty but costs ~$2,800

Option 2: replace with used transmission - no warranty and mileage/usage unknown, but ~$900 cheaper. Do you know a place in Los Angeles County where I can get a used transmission?

Thanks,

there are places that sell used trannies for a fair price with warrantees, just need to find them

find places that deal in imported Japanese cars and engines , there are a ton of them

time to stay home and work the internet and phone for a while till u find a good deal ,,,grind it out ,,ull get lucky eventually

Curious...did you ever change ATF or drain/refill?
These transmissions are really good. I have read only rare failures and lasting 164K itself is good.

Are you self diagnosing the issue, or has a shop done a diagnosis?

I have a very steep driveway, about 300 feet long. Occasionally in reverse, it slipped a little with an occasional shudder.
Took it to transmission shop and they replaced the fluid. Slipping stopped completely.
That was roughly 100,000 miles ago.

yea with my sc400,,,and many other peoples sc400's,,,,,90% of the time when the tranny was acting up or slipping we drained and refilled fluid and it resolved the issue

Has the tranny fluid ever been drained-replaced? For the sake of fellow WS tranny owners, having he fluid analyzed would provide good info on how well the additive package held up for the given miles on it.

Fluid & Filter change first is a solid cost alternative first move.

Not sure on the specifics of the Aisin Warner A650E but JDM replacements are sometimes not simple drop in alternatives. Check carefully all electronic & mechanical connections. Often there are output shaft discrepancies as well but that is an easy swap.

note: also double check for accuracy the list of possible donors I cut & pasted above!

Perhaps helpful info if you do swap: despite it arriving on a half pallet with a lift gate I could relatively easily pick up & an A341E & load it in my trunk.

The A650e is one of the most robust transmissions out there. Highly over engineered and the perfect 5spd auto.

HiI am being offered a 2006 430ls which has been driven for over a year with a hard shifting problem. Nothing has been done by the owner to resolve the problem. My question is, does driving with a hard shifting problem cause lasting damage to the tranny? If I find the issue is the ECM for example will it be potent8 good as new again??
