When did they stop putting ashtrays in them?
I've driven about 20 Ls430s now that we have for sale at my dealership and none of them have ashtrays. Neither do any of the new cars. When did this stop? Am I really THAT far behind the times?!

They can be easily removed by just picking them up. Mine are already removed and after some years I am probably going to lose them somewhere or completely forget about them,

Are the ashtrays just removed from their socket, or do the cars you are talking about have the non-ashtray option (storage box)?
If they have the storage box, we need to talk. :-)

The ashtray is right in front of the shifter under the stereo in my Ls400. Yeah it slides right out. I smoke but I never use it. The Ls430 has it in the same place, atleast it should be there. It's just a compartment. The Ls460 dosent have one at all. Not even a spot for one.

For me it is not worth it. I still use t as a storage box so the incremental utility and pleasure is marginal.

I was just wondering if the OP was describing cars that actually had the storage box option (replacing the ash tray) or just had the ash tray itself removed.
Note - technically, the ashtray option (no-cost option AT) replaces the storage box with the ashtray), but almost all LS430s were delivered with it.

Since you said the ashtray is in the same place as the LS400, I believe you may be looking in the wrong place. The ashtray is located to the right of the shift lever, on the "deck" of the console. In the LS400, the ashtray is located (at least on my '97) in front of the shift lever at an upward sloping angle. The compartment ahead of the shift lever on the LS430 is indeed a slide out storage area.
