You guys must be kidding me right? LS 430 is better than LS460? Come on, be real. The technologies, engine, tranmission in 460 are way better than 430. Or maybe it's a legit excuse for trying to save some bucks. I have an ls 430 now and my friend has an ls 460 and trust me if i could afford an ls 460, i would get it without a second though.

I agree with dapimpee. I'm surprised that someone could have such complaints about something as nice as the 460, thats what i plan on buying as soon as i can afford to upgrade from my 01 to a newer 460. Mind you, i plan to drive my LS into the ground, which may take a while considering I'm at 195,xxxKM"s.

Other than the upgraded ML sound system, updated nav, and bluetooth streaming music, I found nothing about my LS460L better than my previous or current LS430. And I've added bluetooth streaming, so that isn't an issue anymore. The 430 nav is functional, and the 430 ML system is more than adequate for my needs.

To me, the 460 was engine was louder, with an annoying tick from the direct injection. Road and wind noise was far worse in the 460 also. And although the engine had more horsepower and the transmission had more gears, I couldn't tell any performance gain, and gas mileage was worse. The transmission also seemed to be rather unsure what gear it wanted to be in, hunting around on occasion. The fit, finish, and quality of materials also is better in the 430.

Absolutely NOTHING to do with money. In fact, I took a nice hit go back to a LS430, having owned the 460L for only 8 months. And it was worth every penny.

I agree with Bob. I went the same route he did. 05 LS430 to a 07 LS460, and now back to a 04 LS430. I just don't see myself paying another $15k+ just for an upgrade when my LS430 is a perfect car for me. The LS460 is a great car, but it just didn't float my boat.

Also, 460 parts are much more expensive without a cpo warranty. Cost of ownership is higher.

That was my point. If trying to cut costs of owning the car then the 430 is cheaper than 460 but it doesnt mean better.. In term of cars, 460 is a better machine than 430 and yes a Camry is as bullet proof as any LS...LOL.

You are absolutely correct, I agree with every one of your points

On the point of actual performance gain from the 4.6L engine, while it does have 90 more hp, most people don't realized the 460 have a higher curb weight, depending on the trim, L or AWD....etc. The 460 could be 300 lbs ~ 700 lbs heavier, effectively canceling out the hp gain.

We are not kidding. Some people are blinded by the newer must be better theory, which is true in most cases, but there are exception to every rules. The 430 is an exception, along with many other cars in the history of cars.

It really depends on what you focus on though, you are focusing on the newer electronics, higher power engine, more gears in the transmission...........or possibly the newer styling (which is what a lot of people care about). There is nothing wrong with that, the best car is the car you love the most.

But in terms of refinements and build quality, the 430 is higher then the 460, hands down.

The LS430 is the high water mark in the history of Lexus's cars, it is general consensus that 07'~12' is the low point of Lexus, all cars with the L-finesse design have lower quality.......with the exception of the LFA, which is the exotic line and the project started in the year 2001.

It is not much of a cost thing, I would think most LS430 owners can afford a 460 since used 460 should be down to the high $20k range now? The last time I checked like 2 years ago was in the low $30k.

I was curious and I was right, low mileage 460 is down to $25k now. And low mileage 06' 430 is around $20k. It is hard to imagine for a LS shopper who really wanted a 460 can't swing the extra $5k?

That had zero to do with my decision. My car was a CPO that was under warranty until 100K miles. I unloaded it at 47K because I hated it that much.

The 460 is not an improvement on the 430. It is a departure from the 430. Lexus decided to chase BMW/MB and bailed on the formula that made me love the 430.

The funny thing is this latest generation of BMW is following the old Lexus formula of soft and quiet. Too bad they are still not reliable yet.

By the amount of people I have seen on here saying they went back to a 430, I would have to think you dont know what you're talking about.

Not a lot of people went from LS460 back to 430 really.
This is a LS430 section so you will see more proponents but based on my test drive LS460 is an awesome car inside out.
See the 100K+ mileage thread on LS460 forum and there is a car with 315K miles. There are some issues with 460 but there are issues with 430 as well. I am personally keeping my LS430 because it makes financial sense to me (plus I feel that I have a rare car...silver...black...CL...hehe) but I would love to be driving around in a 460L.

I had no idea either but spend some time and do a little research on the 460, they have some pretty serious issues , including engine problems and recalls , and tranny issues, as well as some other things.

A modified 460 though is really a thing of beauty nonetheless.
