Default Thoughts on this one?

I'm thinking of going to look at this 04 LS430 tomorrow (unless one of you beats me to it... lol). Thoughts?

Looks like a decent one from the pics, doesn't say how many past owners. Car is worth $15K Max.

Yep, that's what I wondering. How many past owners and what maintenance records are available? It does appear from that maintenance sticker photo that the TB has been done.

The colors are exactly what I want plus it has the NAV...

Make an account on lexus owners site and you will be able to input the vin to see all records from lexus. This saved me when shopping around. Many 430s had large gaps in history or no records st all after 60_70k miles which was a red flag for me esp on cars with more than one owner. You want to make sure Tb and wp were done correctly if at all. Price should be around 15k with the miles and year

Thanks.... good advice and I will keep that in mind.

Sorry for my newbie question --- WP means what?

Water pump. Also test the steering column controls because the motors in column go out with age and use.

Thanks! Assuming that I have my heart set on the car after the test drive, would a sensible next step be to take it to the local Lexus dealership to have them give it a once over?

I personally didn't get a lexus inspection but I test drove car for 45 mins and crawled all over it and drove better than I could have ever thought for an 8 yr old car. Couldn't find anything wrong so I saved the money to put towards next service. Car was 1 owner with all records from lexus so I was comfortable. Make sure you play with every button. For reference I paid 18k for an 05 last week with 66k miles

I paid 18.5 for my 04 UL with 104k. Service history and maintenance / amount of owners will be the biggest factor in price and your local market as well. Private owner will always be cheaper. Lexus dealers tend to be a little on the high side but also the ones they sell tend to be pristine, like mine. I don't mind spending a grand or two more for the pristine one.

Lavish I was gonna buy that exact car from the dealer but you beat me to it since I was trying to time it to visit some family down south then I saw your posts on the forum. Love the saddle but I had to settle for black lol

Unless you are very comfortable and experienced working on cars I would take it to Lexus and get it inspected. Also ask them specifically to check the car for any previous paint or body work. I have owned and work on my own cars for many years but I still always take a used car to get it inspected by a dealer shop. To me its a cheap $100 buck or so investment. I have heard some serious horror stories about high dollar used cars being hidden complete wrecks or in one case about a used LS430 that was actually two cars salvaged and rebuilt as a single car - don't be the guy that buys that car by mistake.

The lot is around the corner from me. I never bought a car from them but they detailed a car for me (lease turn in). Good guys. Family business.

Just wanted to post a quick update. I went in and drove this car earlier today and came away very impressed. This nearly ten-year old LS430 felt, rode, and handled like a dream and now I can understand the following that this car has gained. Service records were fully available.

However, I decided not to make a move to an LS430 at this point because I decided that it wasn't a big enough step up from what I'm currently driving and have only owned for a year (08 Acura TL) and this one had tinted side windows, which I hated on first sight (I absolutely insist that any pre-owned car that I purchase be 100% stock).

Having said all of this, I can now fully appreciate the LS430 and can imagine that somehow, someway it'll be my next set of wheels... just not yet... if all this makes any sense.

Here's the dealership's ad if anyone else wants to check her out:
