Intro post - '06 LS430 UL
Not my first post - but close.
2 weeks ago the wife and I were shopping for a car to replace her '98 Crown Vic P71 which had just become too marginal for her 25k mile per year commute. After looking at a number of different cars over the course of a month, we tried a 2002 GS300 and we both really liked it. It followed us home.
To my surprise, given Lexus' reputation for being somewhat "boring" I found it quite fun to drive, and the obvious quality of the build and thoughtfulness of the design and engineering very appealing.
I had already grown really tired of driving my '06 Suburban. Great vehicle, but I'm just not a truck guy. I was leaning towards an older Mercedes or BMW (I don't like the current models), but the maintenance expense kept giving me pause. A lot of pause.
The experience of the GS made me reevaluate Lexus. One thing led to another (including this forum, which was very useful to me) and I decided that an LS430 just might "do".
I have to shout out major props to member Gene01 for his "Ultra Luxury Package - identification" PDF file - great work, and it really helped me both decide that I just had to have an Ultra, and identify them from the pics in ads - the sellers almost never list these cars correctly.
So here it is. 2006 Ultra with PCS package, silver over black. I'm not sure what other options it has other than wheel locks. I called Lexus Customer Service (from a tip found on the Forum) and asked for a list of options for both cars. 71k miles, always in the Tampa Bay area, always serviced and up to date at Lexus.
I paid $24,500 at Lexus of Clearwater and got a good trade value for my Suburban, not so easy with gas at $4 a gallon. 2 owners, sold as a CPO in 2009 to the father of one of the techs at Lexus of Clearwater so they knew the car well. Not a super-steal surely, but I thought it fair for both sides. '06 Ultras aren't so easy to find, and this was the color combo I wanted, so I went for it. I never let getting a "deal" come between me and a car I want.
It's not perfect, being 7 years old, but it's really clean. So far as I can tell every feature works. Really happy with it so far. My thanks to the Forum, you guys are a great resource, and helped make this happen.

Welcome - great looking car. The 06 LS is absolutely as good as it gets for a factory built car.

Hi, Gannet!
Thanks for the kind words. Please let me know if you see any way it can be improved.
You have the best quality production car on the planet (he said, totally without bias :-)
Welcome to Club Lexus - easily the most useful forum I have ever seen.
