How can you tell if an 04-06 LS is prewired for XM/Sirius radio? I've looked at one that has the AM/SAT button but it only pulls up AM radio. Is there an installation needed from Lexus aside from calling XM to activate?

When I bought mine, the XM worked on the previous owners account for almost a year, when the subscription lapsed the Sat feature would only play like two demo/advertisement channels.

Sounds like the one you looked at wasn't set up for Sat radio if you were only able to get AM after a couple button presses.

If you have sat. the unit would play the 0 station advertisement. If you just get AM, you don't have the sat unit.

Yes,

You need to install a Sat. radio receiver, I think Lexus started to come up with them (as a factory) only after 2007.

I have 06 LS and I had to install by professional audio/radio shop, works great and I love it.
Not a big deal: a couple hours of work for them.

Good luck,

IL

There are several aftermarket solutions. I installed the iSimple but Vaistech also offers one. The iSimple allows satellite and iPhone connection thru the AM/SAT button. Relatively easy install.

I apologize if I missed something: the 04 LS I'm buying doesn't do anything when you press the AM/SAT button. No 0 channel with an XM Sirius preview. Is there a dealer install for this so I don't have to go aftermarket?

Hopefully it isn't big bucks. I want to keep the car as "factory" as possible. Thanks!

If you get a preview channel, that means that the stereo has a sat tuner. What I noted above is for stereos that don't already have a sat tuner. Add either of the kits and you will have Sirius or XM.

I have an 04 and it is satellite ready. Just need the tuner wired in(200 bills), mine rests under the plastic cover under the glove box.

There is a dealer install, I have one in my '04. Not sure if they're available anymore though, let me know how it goes!

Once you get it installed, turning to the "0" station gives you your XM radio ID that you'll use to activate the unit.
