Just did this fix on my 01. Took me 20 minutes tops and stopped the annoying clicking noise of the mirror attempting to reset itself every time I keyed the ignition. Many thanks Stephen!

Here is how I fixed it for .05 cents. 1. I carefully used a screwdriver to pry away the lower portion of the glass mirror snapping it out of the two lower tabs then pulled it down and out from it's top clips. 2. I disconnected the wiring to the glass, and removed it. 3. I removed the four screws holding the outer mirror shell to the inner ring like shell portion and separated it like pulling a clamshell apart. 4. I studied the problem and found that the plastic encasement to the motor that drives the folding mechanism pops up and out of place when in motion causing an insufficient detent in the open/extended position therefore over/under extending and it is not fully locking unto place after unfolding or just loosely moving around a bit in the extended position even if not folded/unfolded electrically). I put my finger on top of the encasement and operated it to find it works fine if it would just stay in place. So here is where I spent some money. I cut about 1.5 inch of 1 inch coolant hose and filled the gap between the top of the encasement and the inside metal support. NOW the motor encasement can not move upward when operated and all is good. 5. I re-assembled the mirror and it works like new. Look for the small piece of coolant hose in the photo attachment. I know this saved me $$$ and I hope it does for you too. Regards, Stephen
Thanks Stephen, I'm going to try this today. But, I'm a little confused about the '1.5 inch of a 1 inch hose?'

I am guessing 1" diameter hose and then cut it about 1.5" length. I need to do this too and would like someone to confirm.

I have 04 and I have disconnected the wire that drive folding operation.
I haven't done stuff in this threat (1.5" hose) yet though.

Stemmira, to make sure, does the hose piece need to be in the form of a hose, then you cut it to length of 1.5''? its not clear if you cut the hose in half.

Stephen, I tried to remove the mirror, but it wouldn't release. I didn't want to chance breaking it. any additional advice with removing the mirror?

Did not work for me! Did everything as per instructions, left mirror closes worse than before, right mirror is same - does not fold in or out all the way, I have to click the switch back and forth 5-7 times to fully open or close the mirror. Also right mirror did not want to come off, I applied more force and plastic brackets broke off on the back of the mirror element. Used tape to get the mirror held in place for now. Guess I need new mirrors, 12+ years is a long time for electric, used all the time components.

Try disconnecting and reconnecting battery terminals. Doesn't hurt to try.

I just did this DIY this morning, worked perfectly, the mirror is working perfectly fine now....it folds, it doesn't jump back and forth at start up anymore, and its no longer loose.

I didnt use the coolant hose though, I had some long plastic spacers/ wasers I double taped in nice and tight. It doesnt really matter what you use as long as it fits and its snug.
