Default Tire size question

Hi Guys and Gals, I own a 2004 LS430 ML with 18" chromed OEM wheels.
Would I have any problems if I install 255/40/18 tires on my car? The wheels came with 245/45/18 tires. What are the good points and bad points to doing this. Thanks for the imput.

Actually,
I was wondering what is the perceived benefit of installing 255/40 for you?
It's just a little wider than 245, so it should be a bit more stable on the road, also has a little narrower sidewall, so it again adds a little more cornering/changing lane stability. If that's what you are shooting for I see no problems doing that.

the following calculator should give you idea if you are out of specs with "new" tires

Thanks for the response, yes I want better handling a lower look. 255 as you said will give the car better cornering and more tire on the road. The 40 lower the car look. Just wanted to know if anyone has tried this.

maybe someone here or try some tire forums..... has done this specific tire, but I doubt it will give you that much of the lower look. The calculator should give you the exact diameter difference of the tire so you can judge yourself if the 1/2 or 3/4 gives you enough lowered effect.

You can probably even lower the tire pressure in your current tires, just to see how much lower does the car look and of course pump them back up before you start moving again.

I like this site: http://www.rimsntires.com/specs.jsp

If you do the switch, your wheel well gap will look slightly bigger (ie more 4x4 looking) so IF the gap looks bad to you now, it will look even more pronounced with these new tires. But you'll get a stiffer side wall and increase your contact patch so performance should improve (altho it'll be pretty slight).
