I'm pretty sure it comes with a passive system--sets automatically when the doors are locked for more than 30 seconds with the car off.... There's a little red light that flashes before it sets to the left of your wheel; once it's armed the light stays on. You can see the light from the outside.

People still buy car alarms? Thought those things went away in the 90's...

Thieves haven't gone away with the 90s. My alarm has 2-way communication with the remote, so if the alarm goes off, so does my remote if I'm in range.

Honking cars in a parking lot are so common that nobody pays any attention to them. I trust that the Lexus deactivation system is good enough for me.

If I had a bone stock LS430, I wouldn't think about an aftermarket alarm. Having a tilt sensor or glass break sensor serves the need to protect against wheel theft and stereo theft.

If someone takes my car I get a new one. Plus I have receipts forr everything I bought and had installed. Id leave my car unlocked if I knew someone would take it far far away and I could get a new one. Wait, depending on the math that is

What do you mean it works with smart phones? What does the phone have to do with the alarm system? I don't understand how they inter react. Sorry about being so ignorant.

Alarms now can be connected to your smartphone via an application. You can lock/unlock/remote start your vehicle anywhere you have internet access. The smartphone can also notify you if the alarm is triggered.
