Things to ask a shop before panel respray
I'm thinking about having the top (just roof) resprayed on my 01 - the car has spent it's whole life in Arizona and the paint is dull and continues to fade in one particular area where numerous people have told me the clear coat is shot - I would like to know what I questions I should ask the person/shop that I use? I'm not looking for a show finish as the car is going on 10 years old but I do like my cars to look nice and this spot has been bugging me more and more - the color by the way is mystic sea opal.
Thanks

Ask your Lexus dealer where they send body work along with asking owners of other luxury imports and collector cars. One of the partners in the body shop I use drives a beautiful LS400 they rebuilt from a salvage title. You want a place that is going to really work on color match, rather than just spray-and-pray. When I had some bumper damage on a newer CTS I owned, they had me bring it in, clean, on two different days - one sunny and one cloudy before scheduling the appointment. When I had work done on my LS when I bought it, they kept the car for about 3 weeks, IIRC, and brought in a PPG representative to help match the flint mica. I paid for the work on the LS out of my pocket and they were the most expensive quote I got. But, they were worth every dollar. I'm sending the LS back to them this winter to do the hood.
