Default Headlight fades to yellow?

Hey guys,

I have a 2003 LS430UL. The right side low beam fades to yellow after 20-30 seconds. On a cold start, the light is white as it should be, but within 20-30 seconds it fades to a balmy yellow.

I can't decide if it's just a bulb, or a transformer, or what.

The access gained by removing the right front engine compartment cover reveals a plug that looks slightly off from where the light should attach. I take it this is an offset mount?

Bulb is about an $80 item at OReilly, $180 at the dealer.

ideas?

The easiest diagnostic for this is to swap your left and right bulbs to see if the problem follows the bulb, or if its a problem with the ballast.

Good idea.

Has anyone else had this issue?

All HID bulbs start off with a whiter/bluer hue and settle to lower temperature color.

HID bulbs do change color over time and lose some candle power.

Thanks Wai, but this fades way too much. More than just a fade to lesser white...

agreed.. and if its a problem with either, ive always had good luck with ddm tuning on ordering hids. they might have a week-ish wait, but you can get whatever k you want plus itll come with both sides for around 70$ . and they carry the hb3 hi/low bulb also.

If those bulbs are original, I would say it's just time to replace them. Remember to replace both bulbs, even if its just the one that's going bad, otherwise output from both sides won't match and neither will color.

I personally wouldn't purchase from DDM. You get what you pay for and they have been terrible with consistency and quality with their products. I would purchase them from one of our vendors.

OK, I replced the bulb, and that fixed it. I had a little trouble with the clip but eventually got that buttoned up nicely.

I created another issue though. I saw what I now know is a motor that drives the headlight raising and lowering motion. Anyway, I pulled it out and consequently disengaged it from the rest of the mechanism. I re-installed it but now the right headlight seems stuck in an upward direction causing the right headlight to shine way too high.

Anyone know how to correct this? Seems like there should be a way to get the headlight back into the right position
