Differences Among LS430 Models
Hi all,
What are the key differences, if any, among various LS430 models, specifically 2002 model vs newer years (2003 up to 2006)? I'm contemplating buying a 2002 LS430, only 50K miles, in good condition, asking price $15K. Is it a good buy? Appreciate a quick response today.
Comparing LS430 with LS460, is it worthwhile to spend that much more money for the LS460?
Thanks,
Mike

Welcome. The best source of info on years and options is the link in the FAQ thread leading to the sales brochures for each model year.
Basically, 2001-2003 LS430s were all very similar. 2004-2006 LS430s were essentially identical. All LS430s tend to have very solid quality aside from problems I've heard mentioned most frequently here: the air suspension on UL models; mirror & steering column adjustment motors / switches in all models; and blown subwoofers.
2007-later LS460s were a different beast, with a number of quality problems popping up in 2007. I looked at both the LS430 and LS460 and decided on the LS430.

The fat Camry
A 430 I can spot from two blocks away on a cloudy day, from the back or front. A 460 it has to be within six or seven cars lengths and it has to be back view. The front is just so generic and non distinctive.

Actually, you're wrong about a couple things. Our '02 LS430 has the radar cruise control and bluetooth. I'm pretty sure radar cruise control was available when the LS430 came out in '01.

It's the BIG Camry look of the LS460. It doesn't have any distinctive look or design to it. And now with the 2010 refresh, and the Sport edition, it has an even BIGGER CAMRY look to it.

I'm never sure if I'm looking at an LS460 or ES350 unless I get up close. That's not a good sign considering the price difference.

Do keep in mind that the 60K service is expensive - know that going in.

the window height to body height ratio is off, on the ls430 if you look at it from a profile the side window is a good height, closer to the height of the rest of the door from the belt moulding, on the 460s there is more body and less window, that is what ruins it for me.

guys, also pay attention that different countries have different packages...
Like my '01 has smart access & laser cruise...but yet again, I think here we are getting LS from either Singapore/UK/Australia market (not too sure which one of those)...
