Default Decided to buy a LS430 instead of an older LS400

Thanks everyone for your imput about buying a 1991 LS400.

I think I found a good deal on a 2001 LS430. I will be looking at it today and might buy it tonight.

It has 150,000 miles on it. It had the timing belt and water pump done at 90,000.

Anything I should look out for???

Check the service history by registering the VIN on the owners section of Lexus.com. If it doesn't have a complete history or regular factory service, keep looking.

I'd be willing to pay a bit more for a car that is 10 years newer. If a 91 has 150,000 miles people won't say much, but a 2001 with 150K and people will get nervous.

I wouldn't. Most of those miles are probably highway miles and that is how you could rack up miles so quick. I'd rather have a higher mileage highway car than a lower mileage city car. Also, the rubbers haven't been exposed to the elements for 20 years like the 1991, only 10, so your hoses, trim, etc. are probably going to be in better condition. That is all apart from many saying the 2001-2006 LS is probably the best LS model.

Check the service records and the overall condition of the car. I saw one in my area with that mileage with an asking price of around 11K if I remember correctly.

What package (CL, ML, UL..etc.) does it have?

Good luck and keep us up to date!

Good choice bumping it up to an 01. Personally the 01-06 look the best to me (no offense to newer model owners). I to am curious about the asking price.

I think this car was on cars.com for under 8K. I was thinking of shooting the guy an e-mail myself.

I was in a similar position about a month ago. The 400s I looked at were pretty nice, but then I looked at a 2001 LS430 UL. Once i saw the options and the cherry wood interior, I knew that was it. There are lots of little things that need to be fixed, but I'm glad I went for it, even though it was a bit more than my target spending range.
