Default For those of you have put HID fogs (hidxtra) in your LS...

I am considering doing this- I placed the order but just canceled because in the online manual, it appears that you have to drill a hole into the headlight cup in order to fish the wiring to the bulb. This is a big nono in my book as I know it will cause the housing to become full of condensation over time. I called and asked HIDxtra if they knew if drilling was necasarry for the LS install abut they did not know, so I cancelled my order until i could confirm what the story was. My freind put HID's in his 2001 LX and had to squeeze the extra wiring into the cup and his lights developed a little condensation because it was no longer air tight. I do not want to do this or drill. I want TRUE plug and play- do I need to look elsewhere?

Thanks!

Not sure why you'd need to drill a hole in the fog light. My kit was plug and play.... It was a 9005 Kit I believe... someone correct me if I'm wrong. Your 2005 might have a different bulb, but if you buy the right kit, it should just slide in the socket... no drilling necessary.

Exclamation

It doesn't make any sense. On the diagram there are wires coming from the base of the bulb, and then two others going in the opposite direction. *The instructions on hidextra are jot clear. Where am I supposed to put those other two wires without drilling? I'm a little turned off by hidextras poor directions. Riight at the beginning of the 30 min install page on thei site, it says you will be required to drill a 25mm hole in the rubber cup or resin o your headlight. WTF? Do I or don't I? *The customer service says some cars do and some cars don't. It would be nice to know before this turns into a fiasco. *Lol. *Btw the 2005 ls is 9006

I ordered the 9006 kit for my 01 and it was plug and play. No modification to socket or fog light housing. I just drilled two holes in bumper reinforcement for a ballast on the drivers side. That's it.
In this thread there are pics of hid fogs:

yeah the fogs are 9006 for 01-06 ls430 and it is plug and play from hidextra. i recommend their stuff.

btw at night time out here (osaka japan) every vip car seems to have hid's in the fogs whether it be 3k or 6k+. i have noticed a lot (a lot) of vip type cars and vans with the fog only mod put in place. where they can run the fogs alone without headlights...

Thanks guys for your replies. I ordered the kit and it's on the way. Pretty excited to put it in. Anyone have pics of 3000k HID fogs on an LS 430? :-)

I ordered my set on monday. should be here by friday. HOW TO with pics will follow.
I wanted to do 3k, but i couldnt find any pics of it, so i ended up getting 6k
they do have a 5k kit which should be a match to your factory HID head lights.
I do agree w Lust4Lexus, the instructions on the website are total garbage,
wich means you guys will get instruction on how to do it from me

P.S. To confirm, FOGs DO use the 9006 kit. and 25mm IS ONE INCH

WTF! Kit bulbs won't turn into position! They won't lock into proper orientation stock bulb fits perfectly and turns into position. Any thoughts? I'm totally ticked off.
