Maybe it's me, where is the MAF in my car ? I would like to try this as my car is not running as good as it used to and the symtoms show what my car has been doing. I have never done this before.

Anyone have a diagram or picture where it's located in my car ? It sounds simple, remove from car, spray with cleaner till it's clean, reinstall, Pull battery for 10 min, start car...

Hey David. It's right at the air box. Just after the air filter. I found this image on the web. Also, you don't need to pull the negative for 10 min for a soft reset. 30 seconds will do the trick.

I really don't think you need to pull the neg cable, it should reset within a few hundred miles...

Awesome Thanks ! I need to go out to grab a can. Is the CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner (CRC05110) the best product for this job ?

If so, I will do it on my car (2001 LS430) and my wife's car (2000 RX300).

Yeah. It seems to be the most popular. Electronic cleaner will do the same things. It's all about evaporating without leaving any residue.

So I grabbed a can and tried it out. I disconnected the battery, pulled the MAF, soaked it and after it dried, soaked it again. I let it fully dry off (let it sit for about 10 min after last spraying), then put it in, then reconnected the battery.

To note, it was black, the whole thing, after spraying you could see the color on it, it was a big change. My LS is sitting at 170K on it now and as far as I know (unless someone did it with out telling me during service). It has never been done.

So, I took it for a ride, maybe about 7-10 miles, When I started it up, it does idle a LOT better, it was always around 1200-1500 RPM, now it idles around 500-700 rpm. It seems to be smoother to drive and no bucking (that is a new problem) when I punched it. I honestly cant give a 100% till I drive it for a few days but, from what I saw, it made a MAJOR difference.

I also did my wife's car too, it was just as bad. If it helps with the MPG, it would be great !

Thanks for the tip !!!!

Hello Lav, there is no harm to the LS430 MAF sensor using this product (CRC), despite warning on can "DO NOT use on ... most Lexus vehicles"?

That only applies to Lexus vehicles with air an flow meter. It uses something similar to a laser or light measurement to detect air flow rates. None of the LS's have this type of sensor. Ours use a exposed hot wire that gets dirty over time.

Thank you, Lav. My '01 has never had the MAF sensor cleaned - 240K+ miles, gets 25 mpg at 79 mph with A/C off. (Plugs and oxygen sensors only were replaced at about 125K miles.) I regularly replace air filter, but have never cleaned the MAF sensor. Should I leave well-enough alone? (i.e. don't "fix" it if it ain't broke.) Thanks.

Both the maf and throttle body should be cleaned periodically. The maf sensor is a 5 min job.

Regarding chemical cleaners - don't use them on the AFM (MAF) on LS400s earlier than 1995. LS430s are OK.
