Never ever flush a Toyota tranny, ever. Some dealers offer the service because BG sold them a nice machine that does it and they get a nice profit from it. Flush moves stuff around in there that you don't want moved around.

Drain & Fill is the ideal option. It removes a large portion of deposits as they end up in the pan, the metal shavings are captured by the magnet in the pan and stay there. So then adding even a small portion of new fluid replenishes anti-wear agents which is the key to longer tranny life. If you absolutely must do this yourself.: for the World Standard fluid transmissions make sure you can get the fill plug out first, you'd be amazed how many drain first then can't get the fill plug out. Get a container with measured lines on it and drain the pan into that, car needs to be cold, using the measurements on the container, add the same amount of new fluid to the transmission. This needs to be a precise measurement, don't just "eye it". You'll need some sort of a pump to get new fluid into the tranny. Somebody probably sells one at parts store, not sure. Do this about every 30k miles. Get the fluid at a Toyota or Lexus store.

Do you have acess to a lift? If not make sure the car is raise on all four corners so the trans. pan is level when drain and fill. Make sure you have enough space beneath the car to go in and out; and take out the fill plug first, on the side of the trans. You don't want to have all trans fluid out already and can't loosen/taken out the fill plug.

When fill, put the rain plug back in and take the over flow plug out. Fill fuild until the fuild come out of the overflow, then you are done. There are a few more steps but don't know you are ready to take on this task yet...

Yeah its like the Prius and Land Cruiser..

I did a drain and fill, and then did 8 litres through the cooler lines, this latter bit was really really easy.

I was filling via a 5l container with an air line going into the bottle. Fluid just shot straight into the transmission, 2L took about 30 seconds so it was really easy.

Are we suppose to change the tranny fluid Iam comming up on 30K?

Lexus says 04-06 has "lifetime" AT fluid. But gives absolutely no definition anywhere on how many miles is lifetime. I plan on doing a full AT fluid replacement on my 06 LS at 50-60k miles. Dealer cost to do this is about $200-250.

i had mine done at a toyota dealer at 83k miles. i have a wholesale account on parts so it cost me $89 for 12 qts of world trans fluid.it cost me $90 labor to change the fluid after my 10%military discount.
i can tell after the fluid change the trans shifts smother and shifting from drive to reverse is also smother.money well spent.

I'm interested in this improvement. I've read a ton on transmission fluid changes for 04-06, with no real answer...but I have noticed on my 2004 with 120k the shifting into reverse seems far more "jerky" than I would have expected. The only work I know had been done had been a drain and fill a few thousand miles ago.

Today I called a reputable indy tranny shop that only works on high end cars. The owner, who's been in the business for 30+ years, emphatically told me NOT to consider either a flush or drain and fill on my '05 LS430. He said that the cars are delivered with a very high quality fluid which should last the life of the car. Regardless, why would introducing fresh fluid be bad? Among other things, in his opinion the DETERGENTS in the new fluid are likely to cause problems. This guy has never seen a problem with an '04-'06 LS430 transmission. He ended by saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

My Lexus service advisor recommended that I not do a fluid change when I recently did the 90K service on my 04 UL. I took his advice.

i am sure that more then a few people on this forum has had there 04-06 trans fluid changed.i havent heard of any trans going up do to a fluid change.
if anyone has please let us know.
also how long is a life time on a 430? after the warranty and you trans goes up lexus will love to put some fluid in a new trans.

what does a transmission shop do if they work on your trans,keep the old fluid and put it back in when there done?

I called my SA to get his advice on the fluid change. On 04-06 models the dealership's SOP is to inspect the tranny at 100K miles and to change the fluid if warranted (which I'm sure is usually the case). The fluid change costs $225. I'm booked for next Wed.
