UPDATE: Forced rear center compartment lid open and found nickel stuck in mechanism - apparently an 11 year old or his sister or friend wondered what would happen if he or she put the coin in there!

Would very much appreciate any help - the rear center armrest lid in my LS 430 will not open!

I've tried inserting flat object thinking it's a broken latch, but it will not budge. Bought repair manual but still no explanation.

I'm hoping someone with a base 2004 LS 430 will take a close-up, preferably hi-def photo of the rear center armrest lid and bottom when lid is open so I may see and try to figure out how the heck to get the lid open in order to fix.

Really do not want to break it open.

Thanks, I had seen that post, but I'm looking for a photo of what the rear center armrest latch mechanism looks like so I can figure out how to manipulate it to open manually, assuming the mechanism broke.

The armrest lid came loose overtime and make it harder to open. Just push the armrest lid toward the shift **** which made the lid rest in proper position. You can open from this location. The latch mechanical to open the lid is harder if the lid is not at proper position. You will need to tighten the screws which holding the armrest lid brackets. Refer to post #2 pictures. The armrest lid should not have lot of free play if it properly tighten.
