Default To Vinyl, or to paint?

I've seen plenty of LS's with the black top to match the newer Lexus models. Some have the top painted and others have to top vinyl'd. Can anyone give me the pros and cons of doing each one?

Hey TJW98LS,

Please don't take this the wrong way- everyone is free to express themselves and add there own personality to their vehicles, I feel like our vehicles are an an extension of our wardrobe. Having said this, why do you want to make your lexus change inappearance to match the new ones? It is what it is ya know? I'm not a big fan of cars that are a few years old that have add on's to try to stay "current". For me, I say, let the car age gracefully, and dignified. It was designed the way it was for a reason, and changing that design, simply to modernize, in my humble opinion, in a way cheapens it. Be secure with your car, don't worry about the new style. Your car is gorgeous the way it is.

i also only think this looks good on white cars. i have seen a lot of silver benz's lately with the black roof as well but it doesn't look as good as white with black roof to me.

i also vote for vinyl since it is reversible like tee mentioned.

oh no no no no no.........it's not the rag top landau top mod

this is the black top that sort of simulates the panoramic roof top.

Strange that lexus makes it available for the ES while the LS isn't available

Lust4Lexus, No offense taken - I asked for opinions lol. I just don't really want to trade to an ES350 just to get the black top roof. I can't remember which member had it on his white LS430, but it looked real nice.

This is what I am talking about, for those who wanted to know.

Ahhhh... ok. I like it, but not enough where I would go and simulate it. For the ES, it's more a necessity than look really. It's a panoramic roof and you have to have glass.

So you like the "Trans Am" roof look...

Not quite the T-top (Although those were cool back in the 80s =D), but more-so the top.

I've debated on throwing money into my commuter, or simply just trading it for something else - possibly a newer 430 or LS/GS460

You either have a pano roof or you don't. There is no need to simulate that you have one when you don't have one. What else do you want to simulate? Why not 'simulate' you have a V12 with V12 logos? Because it is stupid. Why not 'simulate' you have a Rolls Royce by placing Rolls Royce badges on the car? Because it is stupid. Don't do it.

Call me crazy, but I like the BEFORE product better than the AFTER product.

Makes it look like it was in an accident where someone fell on the car, then had the roof replaced at the junk your with an odd colored piece. Like those beater civics with five different panel colors.

Yes, the before did look better. He spent $10k for a paint job and rims, then depreciated the car by $10k by repainting a perfectly good car. Its a good way to throw $20k down the drain!
